Finally Watched King of Kong: A Fistfull of Quarters

I've avoided watching this every since it came out over a decade ago because I didn't want to view the villany that everyone saw in Billy Mitchell.

Well, I watched it and I feel like Billy represents what is wrong with humanity in general. Winning at all costs is unethical and mean spirited. The pain I saw in eyes of Steve Wiebe's wife after Billy refuses to show up for a challenge near the end of the film says it all to me. The stance Billy takes hurts people and all for personal gain and to protect his elite status in the gaming arena.

I'm just glad Steve Webe persisted and ended up being acknowledged as the high score champion of Donkey Kong as of that time in 2007.

The recent revelations that Billy cheated and subsequently had all his scores taken off of Twin Galaxies web site, only goes to show what kind of person he is. He's a great player but a dishonest one and a bad sportsman. He had his reign but he ultimately got what he deserved.

And now I want to go to Fun Spot more than ever.

When I watched it I thought for sure they were dramatizing just how bad Billy really was. Years later, it turns out the ref for the Mavs v. Heat finals in 2006 was illegally betting on games he officiated, which explains a LOT.

I forgot what we were talking about, but now I'm mad.

I was surprised that Billy never actually played directly in public against Webe in the film. I thought that was going to be the big show. It was worse than I thought. Billy doesn't even show up. As for the Twin Galaxies ref, I think he didn't actually collude with Billy, but that they went along with him because they worshiped him so much. It was gross how many sycophantic friends Billy had in the film. Yuk.

Reading the title it sounded familiar and then it all clicked when I read your thoughts. It is insane how people can take these things this seriously. I saw that he cheated and really was it worth it just to say for a time that you were "the best"?

I just read this article from last April about the cheating. From which, I present this quote, "With this ruling Twin Galaxies can no longer recognize Billy Mitchell as the 1st million point Donkey Kong record holder. According to our findings, Steve Wiebe would be the official 1st million point record holder." 10 years later the truth that was suggested in the film comes out. What a cheater.

The movie catches him in so many moments where he is just lying his ass off or being completely hypocritical. I don't think he could stand that someone was legitamately challengin his record after a decade or more at the top of the leaderboards. What a bad sport.
