Yesterday, Seems So Far Away

Yes, yesterday I played some games. A little Minecraft, a lot of Valkyria Chronicles 4 demo and a medium amount of Forza Horizon 4. What's with the fours? It's bad luck in some cultures. I'll try not to think about that.

So I was helping Mark in Minecraft for a while. I got seriously into the wild and couldn't find my way back. First I tried to make myself into a hermit and establish a cave mansion. That seems awfully lonely so instead I threw myself off a mountain top. I didn't die miraculously enough. I healled up and looked to the pixelated clouds in the sky and said the magic words to send me into another dimension, "I quit", (menu button, save and exit).

I started Valkyria Chronicles 4 demo and got a solid four hours of gameplay out of it. It plays remarkably the same as the first game except that it takes place a few years later (maybe 10?) and with some seemingly new characters, but I think some of them are from the other games. I don't remember any of them myself.

I really enjoyed it aside from the glacially slow pace of dialog, cut-scenes and general mucking about in menu screens upgrading my soldiers and equipment. I wasn't quite in the mood for that, but I persisted because I love the watercolor style of the graphics and the active-time turn-based battles. Oh, I will buy the full game one day.

After that I cheated a bit and started Forza Horizon 4 before Mark gets it. He's going to play more than me and catch up quick anyway. This game plays just like Forza Horizon 3. The big upgrade is seasons. You can race the same races in different seasons and get different road conditions.

Also you can now buy houses. I immediately thought of Fable II. You can get some extra spins on the rewards wheel for owning them. I'm not sure what else yet.

And you can apply skill points directly to specific cars. I saved mine because I don't have my ideal car yet. I'm not even sure what that would be. I usually like the Dodge Charger 70s muscle cars but those things handle pretty badly. I'll find my car eventually.

Oh, and Britain is gorgeous (maybe including Wales and Scotland?). I can't wait to knock down more stone walls and tear up the countryside roaming offroad in a Land Rover or something like that.

There are a scary amount of cars in this game. If I can't find my thrill ride here, then it doesn't exist.
