New Used Games

I've decided to put aside this retro plan of mine and stick to my most recent essentials. These are games I'd buy day-one if I had the cash, but instead I'll wait until they hit near the $20 mark. Three of my essentials for this year got to that level, so I picked them up today: Ni No Kuni II, Banner Saga Trilogy, and Dragon's Crown Pro. Here's a pic:

That's Banner Saga: Bonus Edition there, but as usual, when buying used, it didn't have the soundtrack disc, booklet or poster (same price as regular anyway). I'm kind of annoyed becasue I really want that soundtrack. I love the music in the game. I looked around for a Gamestop with another copy but none are in my area. This is the price I pay for not having the cash to buy day-one.

On the positive side, that is Dragon's Crown: Battle Hardened Edition, and it's complete with steel box and has all the cards showcasing the character classes inside. I sure love the relief cover painting.

That Ni No Kuni II shown is the day-one edition. Luckily, I think, you don't need a code. You just go to the first merchant in the game and he'll sell you the DLC swords for a song. That's pretty sweet.

My plan now is to play the most recent game on my essentials list first and work backwards, trying to avoid all the free stuff thrown at me every month on Xbox and PS4. Here's my essentials list for this year so far:

Age of Empires Definitive Editon. (on PC. Wish I had a good one)
Ni No Kuni II (got it!)
God of War (I rented this from my library. Will return to finish it.)
Earth Defense Force: Wing Diver Shooter (PS4 download. Is it there now?)
Sega Genesis Classics (got it day-one. I'm half way through)
Dragon's Crown Pro (got it!)
Banner Saga Trilogy (got it! Going to play the third game. Then I might play all three again. I'm wondering if there is a new set of achievements with this version?)
Dragon Quest XI (too much, and not at my library. sob)
Valkyria Chronicles 4 (same as DQXI. sob. I played the demo.)
Forza Horizon 4 (playing now. level 102)
Luigi's Mansion (I'm renting it from my library right now)

So all that's fun. I wonder why I obsess over this stuff. Oh yea, I'm a gamer.

"To avlid all the free stuff PSN and XBL throw at me."

I still can't get over how many games there seem to be compared with yesteryears. Stupid choice paradox.

Yea, it's like a flood. I want to keep up, but I just can't. It frustrates me. It threatens my enjoyment of the hobby a bit too. Games start to all feel throw-away and of less value because there's so many of them. It's what killed my music collecting. Once everything was available online, I got excited, but then quickly lost interest. I'm not quite there yet with games, but I feel it coming.

I'd love to try Ni no Kuni 2, but I just don't have time for long RPGs anymore.

I do have Dragon's Crown Pro, though.  My favorite character is the Amazon.  Not sure why, but that's who I like.

I rarely finish any RPG. They either get difficult or wear me out. Lately I've been playing them with a self imposed perma-death rule. I go until I get killed, then stop. Usually that's never more than about 20 hours.

congrats man! Those are great games! Ni No Kuni 2 is really cool, much better than the first. I didn't finish it, but I really want to.

I just bought the Banner Saga trilogy too, for Switch. I beat the first one on PC, but I want to play it over and the others. Good stuff.

I'm not so into Dragon's Crown, but I respect it.

I'm glad to hear Ni No Kuni 2 is even better than the first one. I got about 20 hours into that one before the battle system started to annoy me.

I was thinking of playing the whole BS Trilogy from the beginning again but I think I'll just jump into 3 and then consider a full replay.

I've been meaning to get to Dragon's Crown ever since it came out years and years ago. I will get to this version.
