Hunting the Berserker King

I took up a new mission from HQ to defeat the Berserker King in the Lush Grasslands and two quests from the bar to find materials. I got the two quests for materials, but I am still hunting the Berserker King.

Wiglaf Joins the FightI noticed, during my hunt, that if you receive a Guild Card via Street Pass, you will see a character spring up somewhere in the labyrinth and give you a message. I liken this to those messages from online players in Dark Souls games. I forget what the message was. I didn’t realize what I was seeing right away and ran through it too quickly.

One of the bar quests had me harvest materials for a medicine and deliver it to the shop. The other one had me gather fly eggs at a spot I marked on an earlier expedition. That kind of thing happens a lot in Etrian Odyssey. You come across a spot that has materials for a future quest. You just mark it on the map and come back to it later. I wish Minecraft would let me mark their map. I’m always having to lay trails and markers in the world to remember the way back from a trek into the wild.

The Berserker King mission was to kill it because it was harming soldiers in the field. I traveled to level 3 of the Lush Grasslands and rescued some soldiers and beat it in my first fight using every skill in my team’s arsenal, no auto-battle with this beast. Turns out, it wasn’t beaten, but had just run off. I encountered it again, but it escaped deeper in the labyrinth. Wiglaf, a NPC, appeared and joined the party temporarily to help track it down.

This all took a while, and so, after filling up my inventory with flora and fauna parts, I returned to the Inn and slept off my wounds to continue another day.

I should mention that talking to patrons in the bar is important. I got a tip as to how to kill an owl monster in order to harvest its valuable beak. This informed my skill choices when leveling up. I chose head binding skills for those characters that had them available.

And that’s another day in Etrian Odyssey Nexus, more tomorrow.

Damn, I love these games. I don’t know if I can wait for a Switch version.

It could be this year or the next. Nexus came out in Japan in 2017, so maybe they're in the second year of developement?
