My Orbs Hurt

I ticked off a few more achievements in Crackdown 3: riding the Agency Spider vehicle up 3000 feet and getting gold on all Rooftop Races. These were sidelights to my real aim, though, and that was hunting those darn orbs.

Spider Falls from 3000 Feet

There are hundreds of agility and special orbs to find. The special orbs, which used to be called hidden orbs, are devilishly hard to find. They emit a sound to help you but you have to be very close to them to hear it. The city is large and there are so many places these things can be. I found some tucked behind dumpsters, in rooms hard to find themselves, between rocks on a shoreline, and everywhere else you can think of. The only thing you can rely on is that, generally, special orbs are on the ground, and the agility orbs tend to be up high, on the top of things and sometimes just floating in the air. They can be seen at distance making them easier to hunt down, but easier than friggin’ impossible is still not easy.

Up until now, I’ve tried to do something else while hunting orbs to keep myself from frustration. Mark and I play through the campaign again for fun, or I make more progress on my legendary run. Distractions like these lead you in different paths and can give you another perspective. Once I just started driving around and, BAM!, I saw two more orbs. I try to think of places I haven’t been, or things I haven’t done, to turn my eyes to a different part of this very large city. It's all too easy to retread old territory without realizing it.

Co-op provides an extra set of eyes that makes it easier. You can see the orbs you need and any the other player hasn’t got too. Those appear white. If I see a white one, I call over the other player so they can collect it. There have been some problems with co-op, though. Sometimes the system lags or even drops the game. Most of the time it’s fine, but almost every session it happens eventually and ends the game.

I’m confident of finding those last agility orbs. Special orbs seem too difficult, but I’ll check the numbers. Then there’s my legendary run and an achievement for getting gold on all racing challenges. Some of those races are really terrible, so I don’t know, but I’m getting excited to 100% this game.

I hate finding things in games period, so these orbs sound like my nightmare.

I really like finding things, but only up to a point. Like in The Order 1886, I had no interest in playing it again to hunt for every audio file. Orbs, though, present a special fascination for me. I think it's that getting them levels you up. Also, some of them require feats of jumping skill. And, the environment is interesting to explore.

Don’t get kicked in the orbs.

I think I'd better do the Sumo tuck to avoid more injury. Tongue Out

I just realized something from looking at that screenshot. If at some point I fell from such altitude I would feel that same sensation you get from riding a rollercoaster in my gut. Still wouldn't stop me from playing it though.

There was a moment when I was jumping around to different ledges super high up a skyscraper when I got a little bit of vertigo looking down. I can imagine that feeling magnified ten fold in VR.

I do like that games now add at least a sound or some kind of pointer when looking for these hard to find items. Before this, it was either stumble upon it, or look it up on a guide.

Well, I noticed today how subtle the orb sound is. You really have to keep an ear open for them. Sometimes I think I hear one when it's not there. The Agency Director will tell you when you are near a special orb if you stay near it long enough. By then, you've either heard it or seen it, so usually he's telling you a little too late.
