Looking At May Already

I get excited to get a bunch of new books and see what's coming in the theaters and in gaming for the coming month. I make a list and try and do it all. Here's what I'm focusing on for May.

Books: Doing the next decade in my year long retro reading. I start with some books that give an overview of the decade. May is the 1940s. I found a few more book series at my library that give a good look at the decade, so I'll have about four of them to read over breakfast every day.

For my lunch time reading I'm going by Dewey Decimal system for the year. May will be the 400s, which means Language. I haven't decided yet, but I'm interested in a good grammar book. One day I might actually get good at writing. Plus, I may want to teach English sometime.

Film: Werner Herzog has a new film, Meeting Gorbachev. There's a documentary about photographer Robert Frank called Leaving Home I want to see. Both of those will be at art house theaters. As for blockbusters, I'm interested in Godzilla at the end of the month.

Music: I'm huge into Pandora right now. I run it off my phone into my car on my way to work and my friend's house to game. It's great. I create a new station every month based on an artist from my retro decade. With the 1940s I thought about Benny Goodman and Duke Ellington but went with comedy and Spike Jones instead. A lot of other novelty songs come up in the station. I'm really enjoying it in between podcasts.

Games: Just Rage 2 so far. I played a few hours of the previous one. I won't be able to get Rage 2 day one, but it may be rentable at my library. If not, I think I'll play through the first one since it's now backwards compatible on Xbox One, and I still have a copy. It's an interesting series for me since it was worked on by John Carmack (as I remember, but maybe I'm wrong). ID Tech Engine 5, if I remember rightly. It has sharp FPS gameplay mechanics. That's always a plus for me. Rage 2 looks pretty crazy fun.

Some games this makes me think of: Doom 2016, Bulletstorm and the Resistance series. I can't wait.

Duke Ellington is great!

I never played the first Rage game. I remember when it came out though. Kind of landed with a thud.

This is my favorite Duke track right now, "On a Turquoise Cloud".

Yeah, Rage came and went. I'm surprised they're doing a sequel.

If you're doing games from the 1940's, the obvious choice would be 1942.  Better yet, try 1943, as that's one of my all time favorite shooters even to this day!

I was doing that but not right now. But, I had LA Noire on my list from a little while ago. I think it takes place in '47. I still want to try it if I can find it cheap.
