Mostly Hard Luck Today

Mostly failure in the games I played today but ended on a higher note, and then I had fun adding a bunch more short-play games to my list to check out.

Minecraft: I played in three different worlds. In the first I couldn't find a village. In the second I found a village but it was small and had only a few villagers who trade for emeralds. I created a new house and added work tables to attract new villagers. I got a butcher to show up, but then he disappeared later for some unknown reason. I've discovered that sometimes these villagers get stuck in the environment and have to be freed. I don't know what happened to this one though. I created a barrel to attract a fisherman, but he never showed up. I'm not sure the exact rules for attracting villagers but this strategy has worked before. Who knows. I got frustrated and created a new world. This time I spawned right in a large town. Great, I thought, but then on a runabout at night to get string from spiders, I got killed by a minimob. These guys can be tough because they move so fast. It pissed me off, so I quit for now. End result, 2 emeralds. Yuk. I'm still at 30% overall.

Disney Infinity 2.0: I started the Avengers adventure with Hawkeye. I used Black Widow as backup. I eventually used Captain America as well on a tricky mission. Then I was on one of the last missions which has you fight a large boss. I managed to lose all my Avengers and the one crossover character I had unlocked, Rocket Raccoon. I had literally no more characters I was allowed to use on this mission and had to quit. I think I know what I was doing wrong now, though, and will return to finish the adventure another day.

What Remains of Edith Finch: I managed to get the last achievement. I had missed looking through a keyhole on the room at the very top of the house on my first playthrough. That's where the achievement unlocked. I was thankful I didn't have to replay every part of the game again, although, it was still interesting to play about 2/3rds of it again this time.

New short games. I went through the list on Howlongtobeat.com up through 6 to 7 hour games. I must've installed a dozen games to try out from both Game Pass and my enormous digital backlog. I also have a few I'd like to pick up like The Darkness II, Wolfenstein Old Blood, COD: Black Ops 2 and Titanfall 2. I may grab a few of the cheaper ones tomorrow. I've also rented Far Cry New Dawn from the library, so that will probably be what I play tomorrow, if it downloads in time. I'll play Dear Esther while that's happening. I picked that up for $3 on a sale.

Toodle pip. Another day done.

I think 15-20 hours is the sweet-spot for game length for me.

I got the butcher living in my house now. He just moved in like he owned the place. That's what I get for making extra beds. This ain't no Airbnb, I told him. These villagers can't understand a word you say, though. I let it be. Don't mess with a guy who carries a cleaver.

Ha ha. That game is crazy. Did you see the new Minecraft game announced at Microsoft’s show today?  I think it’s called Minecraft Dungeons.

Just watched the trailer. Seems cool. Diablo-lite. Cool. It'll be on Game Pass too. That's free for me. ha ha. Spring 2020, though. That's a wait.
