Borderlands 3 Thoughts

I can't order my thoughts much right now, so I'm just going to drop a few ideas.

We are now not just exploring a section of a world in a game anymore, it's a whole world and multiple whole worlds. Certainly this is a bit of an illusion in B3 because there's not really that much real estate to explore, but just by going from planet to planet makes my mind bug out a little and wonder how much can there be in a game. Seemingly multiple entire worlds are the goal. It kind of boggles the mind, and, as a player, I start to think differently. Like, I stop trying to explore every corner because I'm led to believe there is too much to actually see.

This game is sharper in detail than previous Borderlands games which results in text being very small. I'm seeing it ok right now, but with my fairly recently declining eye sight, I feel I'm straining a little bit. I stopped reading all the details of weapons after a while and just went with the overall rating number. I choose whatever is highest without having more than one of the same weapon. It's interesting because I switch weapons fairly often. There are a great variety of weapon types and what they do, which is fun. It makes me adapt to styles determined by a weapon's speed and the type of projectile used.

The story is typical Borderlands. I'm finding myself a little disconnected from a lot of the characters because some are new, others are from the Tales from the Borderlands game. They also look a little different in the spiffy graphical upgrade. The ensemble cast of B2 has been fragmented a bit. I'm playing as Flakk, who, I think appeared in Tales from the Borderlands. He controlls beasts which is fun. Mark is playing the Siren character because she has a smash move.

The travel from place to place has been streamlined. You can now teleport from anywhere to certain locations on the map. Maps also show in 3 dimensions so you can tell your vertical position.

That's all I got for the moment.

Borderlands 3 was pretty big at PAX.  I got a mask at their booth that I gave to my brother Jeff.  Gearbox makes those games, right?  That company is just a couple of miles from my house.

Chris Yarger has been playing this too and he told me he likes it but can’t stand the menu design.

It took me a bit to get used to. I think there are so many new complexities worked into the skill tree, equipment and map that it's become really dense. I'm still trying to figure out what Trinkets on equipment do.
