Last Day for Railway Empire

The new content drops for Borderlands 3 tomorrow, so I'll be doing that and not Railway Empire. But today I got some train sim in.

I almost finished the chapter concerning building the first railway bridge over the Mississippi. I had a lot of trouble getting lumber to the site to build the bridge. I had to get into the city stats and figure out which city had a sawmill and determine how to manipulate the resources so that incoming trains would take the lumber and not other resources. Then I had some trouble with overly complex rail lines and coordinating twenty or so trains so they wouldn't get in each other's way. It was slow going, but I finally got it done, riding along with the final train bringing a load of lumber to Rock City. I tooted the whistle as I entered the station.

It's quite fun riding along the train at the ground level. Most of the time you are looking down from high above in order to see everything. Trains are very slow though. My best train at the end of this session could hit a top speed of 50mph. Most of the time it was well below that and stopped frequently to let other trains pass. You wouldn't want to play the whole game at that level. I reflected that it might not be fun to travel like that on a real 19 century train either. At least not for days on end getting from one city to another.

I'll be switching to Borderlands 3 to play the Maliwan Takedown content tomorrow. It's designed for four players, kind of like a raid, I guess. Mark and I will likely team up and see how far we get. If we fail, then we might get some randos in there. Should be fun.

That train simulator sounds really fun. But I think if I get it, it will be for PC.

I'm sure it's great for PC. The game seems well presented for console with clear to see stat pages and easy movement among them, but I bet the world controls are better on PC.
