Zombie Vikings and Starlink

I got Zombie Vikings on a sale last week. Today I played it a lot. Then I hooked up my Starlink toys and played the first hour or so.

Zombie Vikings: I really love the art style, music and gameplay. It's a brawler like a Final Fight or Streets of Rage. It's animation style is more like Castle Crashers but with a macabre and comedic art style.

The dialog is really funny too. The story is about getting the Odin's eye back from Loki. You have four characters to choose from and they each have their own backstory that unfurles as you play. I'm playing as Seagurd who is half viking, half sea monster. You can play with four players at the same time, but I played solo. You get access to new weapons and shields as you go. There are a variety of fighting moves you can use. At one point, I got a pig sidekick who gave me extra abilities as well. It's a fun game.

Starlink: I hooked up the toys to the controller. What a strange way to play this game. My controller is twice as heavy now.

StarlinkThe game so far is interesting. I did a space battle in my ship, as you would expect, but then crash landed on a planet. You fix your ship right away and then fly around over the surface of the planet doing various missions and fighting just above the ground as if your space ship was a hovercraft. You can switch out weapons on your ship to fight different enemies and the game helps you choose. You just snap on another toy weapon and it's active in the game. There are also upgrades within the game for your pilot, ship and weapons which I guess I'll get as I do more missions. The story is a bit of a mystery to me so far. I think I'm helping a rebel pilot escape from an enemy they've just stolen something from. I guess it'll come together as I play on.

Starlink sounds a lot like Starfox Adventure.

It's not.  Trust me.  I've played them both.

So far I haven't left my ship to walk on land like in Starfox Adventures. Maybe you stay in the ship all the time in this game. I'm not sure yet.

You do stay in the ship always.

I thought that would be a problem, but today I really got into the game and enjoyed all the exploration, scanning and even platforming that I would normally do on foot.

Ah, Zombie Vikings. Nothing like saling the seas, plundering villages, and eating brains.

It seems like everyone in the game is a zombie. Zombies fighting zombies. Nary a brain to be found. That would be an interesting story idea, a land where everything is a zombie. What happens then?

The spaceships fit better on the Switch controllers, but I did have to move the Star Fox ship's wings a bit so they wouldn't hit my thumbs!

I can barely get to the buttons on my Xbox controller. It works though. Looks cool too. I'll see how it feels after a long play session.
