I cleared off all my toys-to-life stuff from my gaming rig the other day and prepared my system for a new focus on a games list I made up. I was prepared to play the first game on the list when Minecraft happened. Mark was playing it when I got to his place, so I jumped in and it became a kind of obsession to make progress on the 1000 emeralds achievement. I have 11 days left if I want the rewards points as well.

First off though, the games list. This is a pantheon of favorite and most acclaimed games. First on this list was Halo: Combat Evolved. I have the Xbox 360 Anniversary Edition already installed on my XBO, and then mostly cleared the hard drive and installed The Master Chief Collection from Game Pass. I wish I could just install Halo C.E. from the Master Chief Collection, but you have to install all six games. Gods, that’s a lot of gigabytes.

Then I mentioned to Mark I needed a copy of Halo C.E. for O.G. Xbox and he got one off eBay for me. I have the O.G. Xbox at home ready to go except that I found out my freebee TV I got over the summer has a problem reading signals from a component cable. This is unacceptable, and so I will be looking for another one. This TV has smoke damage which I think I'm getting an allergy from anyway.

I figure I’ll get and play one library game a month. January is Halo C.E., and I’ll let you know what’s next in February.

So Minecraft. Mark and I made a lot of progress on the 1000 emeralds achievement. I’m up to 68% complete. Along the way, I figured out how to control the number and kind of villagers in a town. I was so happy about that because the thing that takes the longest is waiting for the right villager craftsman to show up. Now I can create one at will!

The solution is simple: build and place an extra bed and then build the crafting table associated with a particular craftsman. Poof! The villager appears and you can trade with him. Fantastic! Thing is, I only figured this out near the end of my play time yesterday, so further progress will have to wait until next time when I will create an entire village of Stone Masons - my favorite craftsman. I will have this achievement in no time now, I think.

You need a shirt that says - "Minecraft Happened."

I played a lot of halo back in the day. Don't think I could play it again now.

Ha, that's a good one. I should get a Minecraft t-shirt.

I think it's going to be kind of weird to play it again. I think I might play it on Heroic and see how far I get. I'll play permadeath. I'm not sure I want to run through the whole game again on some regular difficulty.

I've been trying to get my emeralds up lately too. I have a mason, but his trades don't seem that good. What are you trading to him to get emeralds?

The other day I died three times in a row after foolishlly rushing a skeleton at night. I had my iron armor instead of diamond on, and arrows bring me down quick. But the real mistake was trying to get away across water. Too slow. I died right outside my base door. Then two more times trying to collect my stuff. Lost a lot of xp i slowly built up since the last death. Enchanting will have to wait . I'm not ready to do meta game exploits like build a monster farm. Just want to try to get to Ender dragon by playing "normally"

Villagers have been breeding on their own now. I have a village of 7. Not too shabby considering the whole town was dead, eh? I made an iron golem instead of waiting for them to spawn one.  There were already a lot of beds in this village, but I put a few more up in houses, just to see what happens.

Well, the other day the Mason wanted clay for level 1 and stone for level 2. Both are super easy to get. Level 3 seems to vary. I had one that wanted diorite and another that wanted anthracite (did I spell that right?). I level him all the way up really quickly.

I never go for the diamond armor because diamond is too rare. I rather go for an enchantement table and build a library around it to max its power. Then I enchant everything starting with my sword. Mark and I both beat the End Dragon and found the End City that way.

At one point I wanted to make a Golem but it seems the game spawns one pretty quickly on its own now. We had two spawn in the town we were adding villagers to. I think it might be keyed to number of villagers because I've never seen two golems in a village before that I didn't make myself.

I've had an enchanting table from early on, before I fully learned how enchanting works, so the enchants i did weren't great. I have diamond everything, with some to spare, I just choose not to wear the armor so I can avoid repairs for now. I'm in the process of leveling through farming, smelting, quartz mining, and the occassional night of combat. Only going for the third tier enchants now. I want to beat Ender Dragon and then start a new map with all the knowledge I gained from my currrent play.

Mark and I always build a library to max the enchantment power. I did a sword the other day that gave me four attributes: Unbreakable III, Smite V, Knockback II and Flame I. It was nearly perfect. I'd gladly trade Knockback II for some level of Looting though. That's were it's at, the Looting attribute.

I've experimented with enchanting books first and then applying them to the item via the anvil, but it takes longer.
