I read a lot about Taito Corporation the other day and made a list of games I should have. Then i played some more Earth Defense Force 2025 and made some good progress.

I like some games made by Taito: Lunar Rescue, Front Line, Sky Shark and Exit. I went through my collection and discovered I need to reaquire several of them. I have Taito Legends 1 but not 2.. I used to have the PSP Taito Legends Power Up, but now I don't. I have a DS game they made called LostMagic I need to play. I used to have the NES port of Sky Shark. It isin't very good but, I'd like to have it for memory's sake. I also have Exit and Exit 2 but only digitally on Xbox 360. There are PSP versions I'd like to get. And so today, I had Mark get me Taito Legends 2 on ebay. I guess I'm coming up with things to collect. Taito games seem a good place to start.

I got to level 40 with all four player types in EDF 2025. I'm doing ten levels at a time with each of the characters. I played on Hardest for my Ranger and Normal for the rest. Hardest is tough but here and there I beat a level and got a new weapon. I got the biggest Goliath rocket launcher today, but even that wasn't enough for some of those levels.
I started adding a missile launcher to my Fenser's four weapon loadout. This helps with flying enemies. Some of the levels in the 30s are all about hoards of drones or bees. With the Fenser, I feel like a walking weapon's platform launching mortar rounds from my right arm and homing missiles from my left.
There were some really good moments of feeling like I was inside a giant monster movie. Buildings were coming down around me and a giant robot walked by. I let him have it with a mortar round and it broke into pieces and exploded. Great stuff. I just wish EDF 5 had come to Xbox so Mark and I could play it co-op. We had some problems getting co-op to work the other day with EDF 2025. So we've been just playing solo but in tandem. I'm enjoying it.

Taito makes a lot of cool games.  They have as much interesting history behind them as Nintendo and Namco do.  I also really like their in-house band that does most of the music in their games: Zuntata.

I want to get a CD of Zuntata sometime. I think saw some offer on Taito's website for a huge number of their tracks.

It's too bad Taito's parent company, Square Enix, doesn't make the company's games more available. Elevator Action, Bubble Bobble, and Puzzle Bobble/Bust-A-Move can be found easily enough, but you can't find Space Invaders on anything but mobile these days. Ugh. There were also a few other games I liked, like Space Dungeon and Jungle Hunt. I actually played the original version, Jungle King, which got altered because Taito was threatened with a lawsuit by the estate of Tarzan author Edgar Rice Burroughs - there was even a sample of Johnny Weismuller's famous Tarzan scream that played at a couple of points in the original.

They did a few more collections in Japan, but only Japan. Everything's gone to mobile it seems.
