Batman, Barons of Hell and Goofy

As usual I'm dashing around between a number of different games until something really grabs me.

TellTale's Batman: I finished season 2. I'm using this game as a way to keep myself atop the achievement leaderboards but I am noticing its excellent production values. This is one of the best TellTale games even though I'm generally not a fan of this type of gameplay.

Batman Arkham Knight: I started this and was pretty excited by it until I started to do missions. I went to save the firefighters first, found one, and then couldn't find any of the others. So I wandered around. I found a riddle but didn't know what to do with it. I went to the location. Then what? Then I went to a spot on the map that said "breakable object". I think I found the object on the side of a building but my batarang wouldn't break it. I don't knwo what's going on there. I did like the driving and shooting in the batmobile although the game didn't tell me how to dodge and I failed a challenge mission. The game did tell me once I got into a battle as part of the story. What's up with that? I love the traversal and melee fighting in the game. Flying around Gotham is a hoot and I can pretty much take down anyone on the street. I just don't get these missions and how to follow them. It seems like the game doesn't give me enough information or something. I got frustrated with it and took a break.

EDF Insect Armageddon: Installed this to see if I have any achievement left to do. The answer is yes but they will take a while. I started up a Wing Diver (not actually called that in this American made EDF game) and played a few levels. There is an active time reload meter like in Gears. I feel like this dev team understands how to do online multiplayer unlike the Japanese made EDF games. You have a four player team, yourself and 3 AI. Online players then can drop in if you allow it fairly seemlessly. In EDF 2025 you have to go through a very arcane menu system to play with other people and it's a nightmare to get a friend in your group. Mark has Insect Armageddon too, so I'm hoping to try out co-op soon and level up a few classes I haven't played with before.

Doom I and II: I played through the first set of levels and part of the second in Doon 1 before getting annoyed at getting lost in a level. Sometimes it's a real pain to try and remember where that yellow door is. But then I played some Doom II and the levels of the first mission were so familiar to me. For some reason I must've played more of Doom II back in the day than the first game. I knew where everything was instinctively. Eventually I'll replay all of these two games before replaying Doom 3 and then Doom 64.

Kingdom Hearts III: I started it for rewards points but after getting 90 minutes into it, I think I'll continue and try and finish it. Since playing the demo, I have a better grasp of the battle system. I assigned magic to quick buttons and everything started to gel. I love those crazy special moves that put you in some kind of battle version of a Disneyland ride.

And that's a day. More tomorrow in all likelihood.

I'm impressed you know Doom II so well, since I get stuck in FPS games a lot.

As for Knight, I think a lot of mechanics are from City, so maybe they are expecting you to know based on experience? It has been a long time since I played Arkham games.

Especially these old FPS games where the environments aren't that different from room to room, so it's easy to get lost. Although, Doom manages to vary it enough to keep it interesting and not entirely confusing. Now Marathon, I could not get my way through that one. I got lost immediately.

I've only played an hour or so of Arkham City, so maybe that's right. I'm going to search the docks again next time I jump in. I'm leaving it installed on my drive for now.

Kingdom Hearts 3 almost won my Game of the Year last year.  It's pretty good.  A little bit more style over substance, though.  And don't try to follow the story, it's garbage!

I'm not even sure I am following a story. I just go from one area to the next wondering if I'm doing the right thing. New story elements pop up despite my wandering ways.

KH3 is very linear and as long as you follow your nose, you shouldn't get lost.  But the story is garbage and gets worse as the game goes on.

I kept mock falling asleep during the cutscenes. They seemed to take so long. I thought maybe it was so you could take a good look at Jiminy Cricket or other Disney famous characters. Otherwise, I can't explain it.

Batman, Barons of Hell, and Goofy all walk into a bar...

I can't remember how to find the firefighters but I know there's one close to the water so if you're driving around near the water you might find one. The Batman game is really good.

It has been a long while since I've played Doom. I should have picked them up on the Switch when they were on sale.

What a trio. Batman would immediately have to save Goofy from the Baron, but perhaps after a few drinks, they all get down to telling their woes.

I got one at one of the docks and I think the rest must be nearby. I started to follow those audio tracks you hear from time to time, but they took me far from the docks. I'm going to go back to the docks and look around. They mention a place like West Docks or something but I don't know where that is. This game looks so amazing too. I must return to it.

I got them all again on that sale on Xbox, 1, 2 and 3. Now I want the N64 one that you get with Doom Eternal but you can buy seperately for $5.

Arkham Knight can be frustrating, but damn it feels good to be Batman. Laughing

The traversal in incredible. Just gliding around and grappling any old building is great. I swooped down on punks on the street all the time.
