Don't ask me. I jumped into the portal and found myself in a swirl of psychedelic color with strange creatures and farm implements circling round me like I was in the eye of a tornado. Every single button made me sick to my stomach with zero-g movement, so I quit, watched a tv episdode and played the following seven games instead.

Retro: Ratchet & Clank

I played this on the Ratchet & Clank Collection for PS3. I'm currently replaying this scorpion-like boss over and over in a space ship trying to get the hang of the sucking weapon. You suck up these frog-like enemies and then shoot them at the boss. That's my strategy, anyway. Well, the gun jams when it's full and you have to let your finger off the button to start shooting its contents. This loses me a seoond in which I get bit. You only have four hits you can take. I need to see if there is a quick way to switch weapons because using the selection wheel also takes too long and get's you hit too. I'll figure it out, but right now I'm frustrated.

Video: High Score Episode 5

This one's about fighting games like Street Fighter II and Mortal Kombat. It's also about the controversy over video game violence. Lot of good info about Night Trap was given. This is a really great series with amazing interviews. I'm loving it.

Rewards Quests Galore:

Grounded - I only had to boot it for the points, but I gave it a spin to see what it was. You are somehow shrunk to the size of an insect and have to craft and fight your way out of it. There's multiplayer and single player modes. I thought it was pretty cool, but it was very open ended, and I didn't quite know what I was supposed to do other than collect stuff and try and craft items. I fought some red ants at one point and got killed.

Yooka Laylee - I got to the first big play area again and killed 18 minons for the rewards. I kept playing to complete some quests for pagies. I also got frustrated on that first race. I think it's a well done adventure/action/platformer like Banjo-Kazooie. I'm was happy to play it again for an hour or so.

Neon Abyss - I got one of three needed achievements, so I'll be playing it more. It's a metroid-vania rogue-like. It's pretty good, but I want more grenades to throw and crystals to open doors. The bosses are fun single-screen hectic battles. I hope I can keep playing it for another two achievements and not get too frustrated.

Tell Me Why - The newest story-driving walking simulator dealing with the topic of gender transitioning, mental health, and family dynamics. It's good. There was one puzzle in my first hour and a lot of reading stories. There's also a mode that lets you see memories and even interact with them a bit. It's fun to explore and open drawers and find clues. I'm not looking forward to the dreaded confrontation with someone anti-trans though. Ugg. Don't want to experience that. I played for the one achievement I needed, then played more, unable to stop, then finally stopped  when I set a timer and it expired. I kept the game installed so I can go back to it later.

Main Game

Farm Together - I'm struggling to keep my funds in the black. I think I just need to plant the right crops. I created another arborteum because trees are low maintenace and seasonally produce. I made my eleventh farmhand to manage it. I'm at level 65 now. I need to get to 70 to unlock the last plant I can grow.

Digital Backlog

Portal Knights - Games with Gold freebie a few months back. It's very much like Dragon Quest Builders. I had trouble finding the matterials to make a simple pickaxe though, and that annoyed me. How do you get stone with nothing but your hands and a bow-and-arrow? I shot a lot of blobs and wraiths though. That was fun.

What did you play this weekend?

I really like the second Ratchet and Clank game more than the first, because you get an energy bar instead of just four hits.

In the High Score episode about video game violence, I think it would've been neat if they would've given some resources other than the ESRB that parents could use to figure out if a game is right for their kids.  You know, like GamerDad.com...maybe...?

Banjo-Kazooie is a way better game than Yooka-Laylee.  Hopefully you can try it someday.

Yeah, four hits really sucks.

A sticker that says, "GamerDad Approved" on kid friendly titles.

I've played Banjo-Kazooie before. Last time I got lost. I'll try it again sometime. Maybe I was just being stupid.

I need to finish Life is Strange 2 before getting into Tell My Why.

I don't think I finished Life is Strange 2.

I'll respond more later, but if you have any ratchet and clank problems, the first thing you should do is talk to Tamson. He LOVES those games.

I'm hoping for a comment from him, but my titles have gotten so strange lately, it might get mistaken for something else. I'm going to try and play all three games on that collection this month, so I hope he'll chime in sometime.

are you friends with him on facebook? He responds within a day there if you post on his wall or something.

Yeah, but I'm not really stuck so much as needing a little patience and practice.

It's interesting that you enjoyed Tell Me Why. I've read that it has a good concept, but doesn't execute too well. I like games like that though. I need to finish Life is Strange.

It lets you move the camera around quite a bit while the characters are talking. Then if you aim it a certain way, you get a chance to make a dialog choice. Interesting twist.

R&C always have some of the quirkiest weapons. They're funny but sometimes they need some practice to get everything out of them.

I also think I have Yooka on one of the PC clients because it was a freebie. I remember wanting to play it but when I finally got to play it, I didn't want to. Weird.

I've got to find that quick switch control for weapons. It's probably the LB/RB.
