New Routine

I feel like I play some many different games right now, that it's pointless to list them all. So I'll just run through my new routine and maybe you can guess what I'm playing. I suppose, if I stick to anything for a long time, I'll do a blog on that, but right now it's like describing what's on my plate at a buffet - a little of everything.

I'm beginning every game session with Xbox Rewards. What comes up here is mostly a mystery but generally there are always points to be had for checking in and getting achievements. Sometimes I have a play a specific game, like one week it was that Gears Pop mobile game.

Then it's on to Game Pass Rewards Quests. There's always a slew of them for just playing any Game Pass Game, logging into the mobile app, and getting achievements in a Game Pass game but there are also weekly and monthly game specific chores to do. Like this week was Final Fantasy VII (10 battles), Tell Me Why (just log in) and Levelhead (I forget what). I'm almost to 10k points, which translates to about $10 in Xbox space bucks. I'll just keep getting them until I find a game I really want from the store, most of which at least $20 right now.

Then I decided this week to knock off all the Games with Gold games I've been installing for months now and are taking up space on my hard drive. I played some Maid of Sker (a horror walking sim/stealth game) and Slayaway Camp (a horror puzzle game) the other day.

Finally, if I get to it, I'll actually play the 2020 games I really want to play on my ongoing list. That would be probably Doom Eternal, which is finally mine through Game Pass.

The overall thinking is this: got to make the money first (rewards points), then clear my hard drive (like chores), then I can enjoy my favorite games (I think I got this backwards?).

What crazy scheme have you used to decide what to play next in this looney new gaming landscape?

Sometimes it's hard to prioritize what I need to review and what I want to play.  And it can be easy to get sidetracked.  Llke for instance, I just reviewed a game that was just like Puzzle League/Tetris Attack, but it was really hard.  I wondered if I was just getting rusty, so I played the Japanese version of Tetris Attack called Panel de Pon, on the Switch's SNES collection.  And I did pretty good at that, so I figured that the other game was just hard.  So then I saw that the Japan only Mario's Picross was on the SNES channel, too, so I started playing that for far too long.  Then I was like, "Argh!  Why are SNES games so addictive?"  I wondered if I'd be perfectly happy for the rest of my life just playing SNES games.  I had the same question when I first got my SNES Mini.  The SNES is my favorite console, after all.

My friend just saw one on eBay that he might get. I'll get to see it firsthand.

You know, you're the kind of gamer that would greatly benefit from upgrading your storage. Can you upgrade your hard drive or plug in a usb hard drive with the Xbox?

i upgraded my ps4 hard drive to 2 terabytes a while back and haven't had a storage problem since.

I was just shopping for one the other day. Seagate makes one with the Xbox brand on it up to 8TB for $160. I decided, though, that I don't really need one. I don't mind redownloading things. Plus, my friend just got his modem upgraded. The speed is up from before which makes it easier. Heck, I should just get the new Xbox instead of upgrading storage at this point.

ooohhh, XBOX space bucks. I think we've found a way out of this economic downturn, by golly!

Yeah, I have apparently hired myself to work for Microsoft. I play their games, they give me space bucks for more games. "What about food and shelter?", I ask myself. Soon after, "I don't care.".

I think we've all been at that point where we look at the hard drive and figure out which games need to be uninstalled to make room for new ones. Funny thing about my PS4 is that I moved everything to a 1TB drive, and then after playing a game I would remove it even though I have tons of space. Habit I guess.

I wish other games featured using an app to get extra goodies. It would be fun to incorporate the Madden app with the actual game. Play games on the app earn some items in the main game. I think the last game I played that did something like that was Fat Princess on I want to say the PS3 maybe? Wherever that game was released you could play a scaled down game on your phone and unlock items in that game

I remove games just so I don't have to keep looking at them. I may reinstall them later. Often I reinstall a game several times because new content comes out like Forza Horizon 4. I must've reinstalled it 4 or 5 times by now.

Seems like a missed opportunity but no one's got the cross0-platform thing down quite yet.
