1UP basically sunk and I turned up here in February, just in time for blog-a-day. What else? Nada mas.

TV: Rick and Morty

Adult Swim does it again giving me a new show to watch, Rick and Morty. It's sort of like Doc and Marty from Back to the Future but way crazier.

Film: The Wind Rises

I was lucky enough to see this in the theater when it came out. What a beautiful film this is! It's a fictionalized story of Jiro Horikoshi, an engineer of airplanes such as the famed Zero of WWII (a plane I built as a model as a kid). The movie is another Studio Ghibli/Hayao Miyazaki production. It's also a history and homage to flight and airplanes. I just ate it up.

Game: The Cave

I played this game on Xbox Live when it came out. It's a Ron Gilbert design, and I really loved it. It's smart, humorous, and full of puzzles to solve. I like environmental puzzle games when I can solve them, and I solved every last bit of this game. You are given a choice of three of seven characters. These three characters have to collaborate to get through the cave and collect items to solve the overall story. I did every sort of combination to find everything in the game and get all the achievements. That doesn't happen every day.

Music: Anamanaguchi - Endless Fantasy

I remember liking this Retronauts theme song which, since I was following the show religiously at the time, I heard thousands of times. I eventually found out it was this band Anamanaguchi. I enjoy chip-tune music and this fast-paced, what I've heard called "happy core", style of electronic music was a new curiosity for me. I got their album Endless Fantasy and enjoyed it.

Book: Atomic Robo Volume 7: The Flying She-Devils of the Pacific

I discovered Atomic Robo scanning through the new releases at my comic shop. The drawing of Scott Wegener drew me in and the writing of Brian Clevinger kept me following the series week after week. Nicoli Tesla builds a self-aware robot called Atomic Robo. He's part of a group of Action Scientists who investigate strange phenomena and threats to the world. It's similar to the B.P.R.D. books staring Hellboy (I was also reading those). This volume 7 is just one story arc, but there are around twenty different ones. This indie comic is one of my favorites.

What did you like in 2013?

I watched The Wind Rises in a theater, too.  I sure do miss those.

2013 was a rough year because my grandmother on my dad's side passed away, but Animal Crossing: New Leaf came out that year and it helped me make memories with my family after the funeral, so that's why it won my GOTY that year.  I played it with my cousin and her kids after the funeral and it was nice to be able to play games with my cosuins again like I used to.  I'm sure our grandmother was happy to see that in Heaven.

Sometimes a good association with a game makes it a GotY. I have a few of those.

I need to watch more Studio Ghibli films. I've only seen parts of a couple.

I've seen Princess Mononoke, My Neighbor Tortoro and The Wind Rises. There are plenty more worth seeing.
