Stuff Played and Bought

Played a few, bought a few. Here they are.

Bought on PS4: Hard Reset Redux (FPS, cyberpunk, 90s style), Bomber Squad (WWII bomber sim, cute characters, 2D environments, second purchase since I own it on Xbox already), and Patapon 2 Remaster (2D, rhythm RTS gameplay, papercraft style visuals) all for cheap on sales.

Bought on Xbox One: Romancing Saga 3 (90s 8-bit style RPG ala Final Fantasy). On sale. Love that Xbox notifies me when a game on my wish list goes on sale. I used Rewards points to buy it.

Played on Xbox One: Farm Together (bachelor farming sim, cute style like Harvest Moon but no dating). I'm in a groove now that feels more like real farming. I'm building up a very large farm and harvesting a lot to keep the money coming in. The scenery looks realistic too at times - organized chaos - sort of a cross between a fancy garden and a farm.

Escapist 2: (8-bit style prison sim where the object is to escape) Played it online. Jail kept going on lockdown because players were trying to break out, but it was fun for a while. I have trouble finding the locations to complete missions in this game. I ended up getting beat up a lot and spending time in the infirmary and solitary. Probably would be the case for me in real life too.

Hyper|Dot: A very simple but addictive game that should have been something on Atari 2600 back in the 80s. You are a dot in a circle and have to dodge incoming geometric objects. There are many variants as you go along like homing triangles (made me think of Asteroids), darkness, and icy surfaces. I played until somewhere around level 25 before getting stuck on an icy variant that I just couldn't beat. You play for only a minute or so each level but it's a challenge to survive. Good music and lovely minimalistic graphics too. Fun.

Played on PS4: Ni No Kuni II: I'm about 6 hours in now. I got to the casino town and learned the RTS minigame you play every so often. I'm enjoying it but almost getting bored. Fights are a lot of button mashing and the story has you moving back and forth across wilderness full of random encounters. I try to avoid most of them, but it's not always possible. Still interesting though. I almost bought the digital version on sale so I can sell my physical copy, but didn't. I may want to keep the physical copy, I'm not sure yet.

That was a big game day. What did you play today?

I reviewed the remaster of Romancing SaGa 2 a couple of years ago.  Whew, I can see now why these never made it to the US!  Although in December we are getting a collection of the first three SaGa games on the Game Boy.  Those came out to the US as the Final Fantasy Legend series.

Aside from things I'm reviewing and of course, Animal Crossing, I just picked up the Luigi version of Mario Kart Live: Home Circut.  It's an RC car you control with the Switch and play a game of Mario Kart with it using augmented reality.  It's pretty neat and I'll be talking about it more at GamerDad.com closer to Christmas.

Oh yeah, I forgot about the connection to Final Fantasy Legend. I have Romancing SaGa 2 and played some of it a while back. I think I liked it.

I can't wait to see that AR game in your review.

I wish I could take screen caps of the Mario Kart game on my Switch, but the game wouldn't let me.  Probably because Nintendo doesn't want people taking pictures of their actual houses and such.

Yeah I thought about getting Romancing Saga to. Damn good sale. But, I'm just not playing anything now, and I promised myself not to buy anything until I make some progress with what I've already got.

I was trying to chip away at my digital backlog today. It's daunting. Some tough decisions might have to be made.
