I'm finally following 5 different series but don't really want to start a pull-list with my comic's store. I like to see what's out and make a decision to buy rather than commit to some issues I may not want. I take the risk of certain series being sold out, but that's not too likely since I'm not following a lot of really popular titles, I don't think. Here are today's reads.

Atomic Robo and the Dawn of a New Age (collected): I used to follow Atomic Robo and now I'm following it again with this, I think, latest series. I found singles issues 2-5 of the series but not issue 1, so I went and got the collected edition. I'm reading it one issue a week 'til it's done. This one sees Atomic Robo found a new Tesladyne agency with new students and new science explorations. It's a little more sedate a series than usual so far, but it's very enjoyable. Atomic Robo has a kid robot he's bringing up. It's just a toaster-sized box right now but he's going to install it in a humanoid robot body eventually. I think it's a female-style robot too. Is Atomic Robo creating a bride for himself? There are some discussions of the reliability of written history which I only partially agree with but the first issue name-dropped P.G. Wodehouse and his Jeeves books, which appealed to me greatly.

King in Black #2: Oh things are not good in Avengers land. Knull has now possessed many of the X-Men and Avengers with symbiotes and added them to his army. Venom is at death's door. The Fantastic Four are trying to save him. However, Venom's son has a surprising hidden power. Namor appears and acts his usually cocky, arrogant self, but offers a hope in a deep-sea army he's kept secret. No sign of Dr. Strange in this issue, but Iron Man has a new plan to control a symbiote dragon. I enjoyed it immensely but I'm still not getting all the cross-over series. Do they think I'm made of money?

The Witcher: Fading Memories #2: Great second issue as Geralt has to deal with demons called Foglets. However, he's suspicious that they are just an illusion created by the town's magician. Things get more complex as he finds he's holed up in a tower with no doors and the governor of the town who hired him is acting really suspicious and controlling. Geralt just doesn't kill demons for money, he solves mysteries and champions the downtrodden. He'll get his answers one way or another in future issues. I'm glad to say this series is ongoing and after I pick up issue 3 next week, I'll have to wait for issue 4 sometime in March.

Doctor Strange, Master of the Mystic Arts #10: This from the Epic Collection Vol. 4 I'm still working on. Issue 10 starts a new storyline. Baron Mordo, who was defeated by Strange in a previous series, is losing his mind in a room of Strange's sanctum sanctorum. Strange is trying to help him but suspects greater powers at work and sure enough, he finds them. Nightmare appears in Mordo's mind and then Eternity himself appears in NYC and gives Strange a challenge to truly master himself. All of existence is at stake and even Strange's master can't help him this time. Oh yeah, I'm burning with anticipation issue 11 I'll read next week.

"There are some discussions of the reliability of written history which I only partially agree with" ... oh? That sounds interesting

I do like Marvel's symbiote stories, or at least how they look.

I really do need to start Witcher 3 again ... some day.

Burning with anticipation ... that's intense.

The idea that the truth of history is elusive because whoever writes it has his/her bias, suggesting that no one can really know the truth of history. I think while that's true, modern historians have really tried hard to get around the biases of a particular age and its historians through improved archeology and other techniques. We really can find out a lot of what is true of a particular time or event, just not in every case. Leaving history up to interpretation opens the doors for a lot of conspiracy theories and whatnot which make great stories like some told in Atomic Robo, but are really not too likely given what we actually do know for sure.

Oh ok. Yeah, I would tend to agree.

It occurs to me now that those words about history were put in Atomic Robo's mouth. It would make sense for him to be skeptical of all history books in his world where there really are strange things like hollow earth and sentient dinos.
