Something to think about. I made a list of the top-selling home video games of the 90s, one for each year. I tried not to repeat a franchise if possible. Some of the numbers are not exactly known, but I think this makes a good list of top-selling games of the 90s.

1990 - Super Mario Bros. 3
1991 - Sonic The Hedgehog
1992 - Street Fighter II
1993 - Mortal Kombat
1994 - NBA Jam
1995 - Donkey Kong Country
1996 - Super Mario 64
1997 - Final Fantasy VII
1998 - Legend Zelda: Ocarina of Time
1999 - Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow

I wanted Dragon Quest IV in place of Super Mario Bros 3 but only in Japan was it that high on the list. Over here it was all about SMB3.

Sonic could've been replaced by Super Mario World, but I didn't want this list to be all about Mario.

DKC was really beat out by Mortal Kombat 3, but I didn't want two MKs on the list.

My own favorites are quite different of course, but I like thinking about these and their huge influence on video games in general.

That's a lot of fantastic games! I loved the 90s, still do

I'd like to try the Pokemon series sometime.

The 80's may have had the best arcade games, but the 90s had the best console games.  My top two favorite consoles were from the 90's, the PlayStation and the SNES.

It was a special time for consoles - no online or anything, just a system, and a tv. I have been thinking about going back to that, turning off all the online stuff, and just playing a few games unconnected. It's so overwhelming now with all the choices.

About that...  One thing I miss about the old consoles is you just turned them on and boom, you could play a game.  Now you have to wait for it to load, show you the console's logo, then connect to the internet, then load a game, show all the companies that worked on it and what engies they used, etc.  It takes a good few minutes just to start a game anymore!

Yeah, that is a pain. Today though, I played on the cloud on my Xbox. No install to wait for.

I think Goldeneye was the best-selling game of 1998 despite also being the fifth best-selling game of 1997. Ocarina of Time was number 2.

I didn't adhere too strictly to the sales numbers.
