It's Roughly 1990 in Gaming

It's almost August when I will be focusing my retro gaming on the 90s. That's NES, Genesis, SNES, PS and N64 for me. I don't have a Saturn anymore, never had a TG-16 or Neo Geo, and I didn't play handheld games until the DS. However I do now have the option to play Game Boy and GBC games on my Gamecube's GameBoy Player. So I may break that out too. Here's a list of stuff I'm interested in from 1990, more or less.

Dragon Quest IV: Availability: NES but too expensive and apparently Android. I may look into that.

Final Fantasy III: Available on Switch/PS4 I'm told.

Phantasy Star II: On Sega Genesis Classics.

Super Mario World: SNES (probably expensive), and Switch with membership. Got it!

Fire Emblem Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light (Switch? I'll gonna look).

Magic Sword: on Capcom Arcade Stadium 2.

Final Fight: On Capcom Beat 'em Up Bundle.

Parodius From Myth to Laughter: A Konami cute-em-up I sooo want to play but is not available in America. Rats!

Final Fantasy Legend II: I own the GameBoy version but it's also on Switch and Windows.

Sid Meier's Railroad Tycoon: I don't see an option to play this yet. Maybe it's on Steam though?

Ys II: I looked up the DS game since my PSP died and I traded in my PSP version. They didn't have it and it may end up being $100, so I will likely not get that.

Castlevania III: Castlevania Anniversary Collection. Maybe I can do better in this one?

Mega Man 3: I have the Legacy Collection on Xbox. I hope I do better than I did with 2.

Bonk's Adventure: A very expensive NES cart or on Wii Virtual Console if I bought it years ago. I have a memory of playing a game with a kid who uses his head a lot, so... maybe I have this then? Gonna have to break out the Wii to find out.

Herzog Zwei: Genesis Mini 2 and Switch. For historic reasons. I may find it impenetrable.

PGA Tour Golf: Genesis/SNES. I own a Genesis cart and will play it again. My friend and I used to play this series on Genesis a lot in the 90s.

Anything cool I missed from circa 1990? I'm going year by year all month long to find retro things to play.

Ooh, Herzog Zwei. Yeah, I bet it is impenetrable today but that would be interesting to see such an early RTS. I bet Super Mario World is not expensive for an SNES cart. They made so many of those.

I tried to find a SMW cart at Game Junkies but didn't see one. I should go again because I probably missed it. Not expensive and I have very few SNES carts these days. Would be a good addition.

I hope you get a chance to play Final Fantasy 3 (FF6).  It's one of my top five favorite games of all time.

I doubt Super Mario World is that expensive.  It was a pack-in game initially and there are many ways to play it.  It's one of my favorite Mario games.

I loved playing Magic Sword and Final Fight in arcades.

I wish we got the Parodius games in the US.  It's a shame that in the 90s, everyone thought Americans hated cute games.

Hate to break it to you, but Mega Man 3 is harder than 2.  MM2 is actually one of the easier games in the series.

The best way to play Bonk's Adventure is on the TG-16.  I wish I had a TG-16 as a kid.  Looking back on it, I think I would've really liked that console.

Here's some more 1990 games to look into:

Little Nemo: The Dream Master (NES)

Dr. Mario (NES)

Lemmings (PC)

I really want to play FF6. I really want that bundle their selling right now of FF1-6. $70 though. It's on my wish list.

I feel I have Bonk's Adventure on my Wii when I was buying TG16 games on Virtual Console. I really don't have any more hook ups on my current gaming tv at my friend's place. Maybe at home I'll do it though. . . interesting idea.

I think $70 is way too much for FF1-6 Pixel Remasters.  Unless it's the phyiscal version.  They didn't make enough of those.

I might have paid it for a physical version, but not digital.

Fire Emblem is on Switch. FFIII is part of the Pixel Remaster series, which is on Switch, PS4, and PC.

Dragon Quest IV is on DS, along with V and VI. Of the three, it's probably the easiest to find. I wish they would port these games to Switch. The first three games are there. DQV is one of the best games in the series.

Darn, I just realized I have FF3 on DS in my collection. Problem one has when one has too many games. Forget what one has.

DQIV looks to be a little pricey, maybe $80 or more. I'll think about it.

Hey, my birth year!

Hate to say this, but I found both Castlevania III and Mega Man III harder than original Castlevania and Mega Man 2, respectively.

They're all hard for me. Haha. I'll keep tryin' though.
