I read this out of order. This is the second story collection for The Witcher. The Last Wish is the first. But it's my first experience reading The Witcher.

WSD

It's sword & sorcery stories with a bit more complexity than most and not just in lore and world building but in characters: their feelings, their ideas, and romances. There can be a lot more talking than action at times, which as long as it's about a Gold Dragon or deadly wood Nymphs, I'm okay with it. However, I got a little sick of Geralt's endless yerning after Yennifer. Ugh, are you a fighter or a lover anyway? And I can't stand that name, Yennifer. It just sounds like a mispronouned Jennifer).

But it makes sense because The Witcher is more than just a fighter, he's a thinker too. He is careful to choose the right time to drawn his sword. He's not about vanquishing foes exclusively but understanding what the real problem is and who's to blame. He's a kind of detective and judge all in one. I like this novel take on the genre: more character development and internal soul searching, a more mature take, if you will, on the genre.

I didn't realize this one was also a short story collection. I have a couple Witcher books. Been meaning to read them for years now. Always glad to hear something positive lol.

The third one is the first full Witcher Novel, Blood of Elves I believe. I was going to read all three last month but only got through one of them. I'm excited to read more.

My mom liked watching the Witcher show on Netflix.  She asked me why I never played the games and I said, "Oh come on, does that LOOK like a game I'd play?"  She asked the same thing about BloodRayne when she watched those movies and got the same reaction out of me.  :)

Been meaning to watch the TV show, but I never have time for film unless it's in the theaters these days.
