My 2024 Gaming Plan

My plan is to travel through the years in 12 increments roughly following the different periods in my life and the video game console generations.

January: 1967-1976: Since Pong is not that interesting, I thought I'd play a lot of pre-video game games. I have a really cool puzzle showing all the consoles up through the 90s I'd like to make and then frame.

And I have a few board games: Squad Leader, Catan, Carcassone, and Risk: Plants vs Zombies edition. I'd like to finally play them. Finally I'd like to visit a place near me called Pinball Arcade which has a lot of pinball tables - real tables, not digital recreations.

February: 1977-1983: The Golden Age of video games, which now sounds like an old folks home. I'm excited to hook up my Retron '77 and play a lot of Atari games, bring out the Mattel Electronics Baseball handheld, and visit several arcades still around in my area.

March: 1984-1989: 3rd generation of video games I sometimes call the Nintendo Generation. I'll be hooking up the Retron 5 and exploring NES games exclusively.

April: 1990-1994: The console wars generation between Sega and Nintendo. I think I'll start with Genesis and the Game Boy. The SNES (via my Retron 5) will hopefully get some time too.

May: 1995-1999: Playstation, N64 and Game Boy Color. Tough choice here what to start with but I might go with N64 since I still have one and will have to use my PS2 for PS1 games. I'd like to go with original hardware were I can.

June: 2000-2005: A new contender enters the race with the Xbox. I'll probably start with OG Xbox and the Game Boy Advance (I like to pair a console and handheld together). How to squeeze in PS2 and GameCube? I guess I'll see how long I can stay with Xbox first.

July: 2006-2010: Xbox 360, PS3 or Wii? Another tough choice here. At least the handheld is clear. Nintendo DS for the win. I'm tempted to go with PS3 first and rebuild my collection of games exclusive to PS3.

August: 2011-2017: Wii-U, PS4, Xbox One, Switch and 3DS. Only one I don't have anymore is Xbox One. I think I might go with Wii-U and 3DS. I'd like to get a solid game collection together for the Wii-U and the 3DS is my goto handheld for this month.

September: 2018-2021: Xbox Series S|X and PS5. I think I'll consider Switch as a handheld for this month. I'd love to pick up a PS5 and get into a few exclusives there. If the money's right, I might do it but otherwise the Series S will get hooked up again.

October: 2022: I'll just review the year and start in on something, one game at a time, for any console.

November: 2023: Same here, different year.

December: 2024: Finally up to date and playing the one game of the year I most want to play, or two, if I have time.

And that's the plan. What do you think?

I'd love to get that jigsaw puzzle for my dad.  But right now, jigsaw puzzles are hard for him to do with all the grandkids around.

My gaming plan is to try and play and review all the games I can and have fun.  Not much of a plan, but that's how I roll. :)

Good plan. Mine tend to get too complicated.

That's a cool puzzle! Between my kids and my cats, jigsaw puzzles are not safe in my house Cry

The plan, as usual for you, is incredibly ambitious. Good luck!

I'm going to try and build it on the backing of a poster frame so I can mount it on the wall when I'm finished. No one's going to wreck it then.

Thanks.
