Both Old and New

In no paticular order, these are the games I played on my midweek weekend this week.

PAW Patrol World - Finished this game to 100%. I enjoyed it. An easy game is sometimes fun. Total time spent was 7 hours 44 minutes over two weekends. I would've loved to fly around freely in the helicopter but the game holds your hand a little too much and doesn't let you do that. Great for kids though.

Return to Grace - This is an adventure game on Game Pass where you attempt to discover what happened at a facility on a moon of Jupiter. Check it out.

I finished it in 2 hours 25 minutes but didn't go for complete achievements. Once was enough.

Bionic Commando - I played the arcade version on Capcom's Arcade 2nd Stadium. I found myself really enjoying it. I tried to find the NES version, two remakes and the 3D game but none of them are on Xbox or Switch as far as I could find. I thought, for sure, the NES version would be on Switch subscription service. Weird

Disney Afternoon Collection (Duck Tales) - This is the original NES game in this collection. I really like the pogo stick mechanic but this game is hard. Below I mention the remake I played and it is much more accessible. I may go back to this, though, now that I know the levels well.

SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom - Rehydrated - This just got added to Game Pass, and I needed another easy game for rewards points. I played a good bit of it before the platforming just drove me a little crazy. Those bungie jumps are really hard to control. Also, the map doesn't tell you where the bus stops are, which is important for switching characters. But there's lots to do on each location and they aren't too big.

Dead Space Remake - On new game plus, easy difficulty, up from story mode. Got my spiffy new suit of armor. This one is white and sleek. I look like a robo special ops guy, like the Crysis guy. I love it.

DuckTales Remastered - This is a great remaster and much more accessible than the original. When you die you just respawn nearby with full health. That, the better controls and colorful graphics are what keep me playing it. I've finished most of the levels. I think there are two more, the last one being the moon. I'm having fun with it.

Warhammer 40K Boltgun - This, on Game Pass, is what replaced SpongeBob for rewards points, but I'm loving it. It's old school FPS ala Doom, Heretic and Shadow Warrior in the Warhammer universe. Perfect! It's gory as heck too. I'm wading in gibs up to my hip, I love it. I've beaten the first boss so far. I will likely stay with this for weeks. Check it out:

Forza Horizon 5 - I'm doing dailies and completing everything in the offroad DLC area. I was surprised I hadn't finished that. Some of the Playlist challenges aren't accessible until you finish that DLC, so I'm doing that. I'm slowly getting into modding my cars too, but not a lot because I have no idea what I'm doing.

Dragon Warrior - I'm playing the original NES cart on a Retron 3. I'm doing 1 level a day, which helps me from dying by going too far in the world, which I tend to do. I discovered I need some graph paper for the dungeons. I forgot that was a thing. I also forgot how long a torch lasts in dark areas. It's a number of steps, I'm sure.

Final Fantasy - I bought the Pixel Remaster on Switch with rewards money from a reciept scanning app called Fetch. I'm playing similarly to Dragon Warrior, one level at a time. So far I've only created my characters and suited up. I'm loving the colorful improved graphics. I am curious about the original cartridge I saw at a game store near me though. They want $24 for it. I got the digital version for $11. I think I might just stick with the digital, but I'd like to sample the original sometime.

That's a week. I hope yours was good too.

I loved the Disney Afternoon Collection.  So glad Capcom put that out.  Whilie many people have fond memories playing Mario and such on the NES, a lot of my nostalgia comes from the Disney Afternoon games.  DuckTales in particular is pretty amazing.  I would say you should try Chip N Dale Rescue Rangers, but technically that came out in 1990.

If it weren't for Animal Crossing: New Leaf, DuckTales remastered would've been my GOTY for 2013.

I'd say stick with the pixel remaster for Final Fantasy.  The original NES game had too many things I find annoying.  For instance, if two characters are chosen to attack the same enemy, and the first guy defeats it, the second guy won't auto target another enemy.  He'll just swing his weapon and miss.

I'm not being too strict about the dates. I'm largely following IGN's top 100 NES games and Duck Tales was number 10 on that list. Chip N Dale might be there somewhere and if so I'll play it when I get farther down the list.

Interesting about Final Fantasy. My other goal, which I'm also not being too strict about, is to play games in their original format on their original systems. So I may pick up FF again as a cart anyway.

Chip N Dale is also a two player simultaneous co-op game, so it would be something you could play with your friends.

Yea, I know that's on the IGN list somewhere and I'll get to it eventually. It's in the Afternoon Collection I believe.
