This was definitely the era of the Wii and 360. Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 are great. If it weren't for my nostalgia for Mario 64, I'd say those are the best Mario 3D platformers. I didn't like Twilight Princess much on the Wii, but the HD version of Wii U is so much better. But you know what's better than both of those? Okami on PS2. Really liked the 360 as well. Ended up being one of my favorite consoles due to the variety of games on it. Shame the Xbox consoles after that didn't have that. Only reason why I got the Orange Box was for Portal. What a great game, though.

This is roughly the Xbox 360/PS3/Wii generation that I'm revisiting in July. I thought I'd take a peek at the top 16 on Metacritic for these years which will become my retro game list for that month. I like to make some notes on each too.
1. GTA IV: I've a played a few hours of it on Xbox. It's availble everywhere.
2. Super Mario Galaxy: I own this on Wii and have played it up until a point. I'd like to finish it. Also, it's part of Super Mario 3D All-Stars (with SM64 and SMSunshine) for Switch which I might pick up.
3. Super Mario Galaxy 2: Seemingly only available on the Wii at the moment. I'll be picking it up.
4. Bioshock: I've played it several times on different systems. It's available everywhere.
5. Uncharted 2: I've beaten this game a long time ago. I own this on PS3 and digitally on PS4.
6. Orange Box: I've played everything in this collection and used to own it on X360. I'm not sure if it's downloadable anymore, but I'll check. If not, I'll have to buy it again. Why do I trade good stuff like this?
7. Mass Effect 2: Played it but not to completion. Available everywhere remastered and bundled with 1 and 3.
8. LittleBigPlanet: I've tried this game before but don't own it now. Apparently only available as a PS3 disc. Will get.
9. Zelda: Twilight Princess: I've played a little bit of it. Used to own it, now don't. On Wii and in HD version on Wii-U. Will likely rebuy.
10. Red Dead Redemption: Played some of it years ago. This series has some of the best graphics in gaming imo. I believe it's still downloadable most places.
11. Gears of War: I played it nearly to 100% complete achievements. I have the remastered version digitally.
12. Oblivion: Played maybe half of the main story. I always get hung up somewhere in it. I want to give it another shot. It's available digitally most places I'm sure.
13. COD 4: Modern Warfare: I'm not usually into tactical FPS games but I try them from time to time. I can try this digitally likely as part of the Infinity Warfare collection or as the reboot COD Modern Warfare).
14. Halo 3: Played it but would revisit it for sure. I have it digitally as part of The Master Chief Collection.
15. Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence: I'm not a big stealth game fan but if I can get this for a reasonable price, I will try it. This is actually Snaker Eater expanded which is now part of various collections and will be remade this year as Solid Delta.
16. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2: Available digitally as well as a Campaign Remastered version.
I love these lists because it gets me to revisit old favorites and play outside my normal comfort zone. Often I'm surprised that I like something I didn't think I would or at least gain an appreciation for a genre I don't normally play.
What's your favorite Gen 7 games?
