Running Through 'em

Stuff I played the last few days and some trades for retro games.
Tamagotchi (GB) - My critter seems to be always sleeping. I rudely woke him up and put him through his paces, rewarded with a meal of carrots. I moved him from the Super Game Boy Player to the GBA SP, and I'll see if he's still there later.
PS1 Run-throughs
Railroad Tycoon II - A second go at this didn't get me much farther than building one railway route. Taking a game designed for PC and putting it on PS1 produces a confusing and clumsy game. Trade.
Final Fantasy Tactics - I used to hold these strategy games with such reverance, but right now I have little patience. I appreciate the lenglhy story elements, and it plays well, but why am I set up 2 against 6 right at the get go? Trade.
Demolition Racer - Billed as the spiritual successor to Destruction Derby 2 and it looks the part but isn't quite as good. Still very fun though. You have to race AND cause damage to win. Keeper.
Destruction Derby 2 - An old favorite and is still a blast to play. Keeper.
Pong Next Level - I tried this again and am still uncomfortable with the controls. This kind of skill-based game needs very fine controls. I like the imaginitive takes on Pong in this, but it just frustrates me more than thrills me. Trade.
Cosmic Commuter (from Activision Classics) - How did I miss this one? It plays a lot like Defender but you pick up people like a space bus. I'm not sure how to rejoin my ship after all my stops, though, but I'll figure it out. I'm hoping to find an original cart to play.
Crackpots (same source as above) - I like this better in normal mode instead of the hard mode you play on Retro Classics. You get more play time out of it. What a creative game. A bit like Kaboom in reverse.
Breakout (same source as above) - Always play it when I see it and always bemoan the sloppy controls. I'm thinking if I get a dual shock PS1 controller (I only have the older ones right now) it might be a smoother experience.
Super Break Out (within Arcade's Greatest Hits: The Atari Collection) - Very faithful arcade port but those darn controls again. See below as I got a dual shock today.
Wargames Defcon 1 - An old favorite revisited just enough to know it's still awesome, and I will do a full replay at some point. It's an isometric view action game. You get tanks, jeeps and troops that you can move and fire alternating between all your forces as you go. Back in the day, my friend Mad Krammer and I beat it co-op, split-screen. Good times. Keeper.
N64 run-throughs
Robotron 64 - I played this a good while. It's a more 3D view style take on the original and plays great. There are even bonus rounds. Keeper.
Turok 2 - I loved the Turok games back in the day, but the weird controll layout for N64 is just hard to get used to after so much modern FPS gaming. These have all been remastered on Xbox etc... anyway with modern controls. Trade.
Hexen - Another old favorite and controls way better than Turok. It's a visceral, dark fantasy FPS by Raven Software. I love just punching Orcs into mush. Keeper.
Star Wars: Shadow of the Empire - Production wise this looks fantastic but the controls are slow and awkward. This has been remastered too, I believe, for modern consoles. Trade.
Back to The Relatively Modern Games
Borderlands GotYE on PS3 with Brick - I got a little farther after my last rage quit. I think I'm starting to accept the constant gear gazing and found some good weapons. Simplified systems to make gear choices go faster just don't work.
Borderlands 2 on Xbox Series S with Krieg - At level 13 or so now. With more careful examination of gear and skill tree upgrades, I'm starting to get better. B2 really pushes you into side missions unlike B1. You kind of need the extra XP,. Plus, the stories are interesting. I'm becoming an expert Goliath wrangler. If you can get them up to Fatal God level, they reward you with more Iridium when you inevitably have to put them down.
Trades
With my trades I got the following:
PS1 dual shock controller, white, to go with my PSOne deck. My thumbs are constantly grabbing at non existent analog sticks on the original controllers without them.
Extreme G-2 (N64) - I'm thinking this was the racer I liked so much on the Switch sub. It was cheap, so I'll find out with the cart. It may have been the F-Zero series though, but I kind of doubt it.
Commandos 2 (PS2) - Been meaning to play this RTS more thoroughly for a very long time. It's been remastered on modern consoles, but I like original games.
Burnout Dominator (PS2) - I hope this isn't in my collection already, but it wasn't on my database. It was the last traditional Burnout game before Burnout Paradise changed the formula and a Sony exclusive. It was made by EA UK instead of Critereon. I had it for the PSP before I traded that system and was very impressed.
And that's a lot and all for now.
