No Respawns

In revisiting my collection, I'm trying to keep it brief by not respawning unless I can't resist it. I restarted many times in Space Invaders Extreme, for instance. I wanted to respawn in Minecraft, but didn't. Sometimes I just want to leave something for later. Going back to one I've 100% completed is kind of downer. So these are this week's revisits.

Played on DS

Final Fantasy IV - I died fighting The Mist Dragon, the first boss! IGN suggested grinding in the wilderness until level 12. I think Cecil and Kain were level 5 or so when I took The Mist Dragon on. Why would I think of grinding knowing nothing of this boss's strength? What a stupid way to find out by dying (I get that's the way it used to be done, but come on!). I think I'll play the Pixel Remaster version instead on Switch next time. Bye bye DS version. Trade bait!

Space Invaders Extreme - Again, what a fabulous reimagining of Space Invaders! You have your standard gameplay but with loads of power up drops, bonus rounds, diving enemies, shielded and spawing enemies, boss fiights, score challenges and an all around graphical flair that's just exciting to look at. I frickin' love this like Pac-Man Championship Edition.

Played on Xbox 360

Defense Grid: The Awakening - I couldn't make a dent in my story progress from years ago and so I went after medals in all the individual challenges for each mission. I swear this is harder than the sequel which I 100% completed. It was fun though. Eventually, I just started messing around and tried to beat levels with only Meteor and Laser Towers 'cause they look cool. MK was attached to Concussion Towers which make a great racket on his tv's sound bar and look crazy like the paths were being bombed by airplanes. It's fun to experiment and the graphics are fun to watch, but sometimes these experiments don't work and you lose. I got a little frustrated with that and put it down for now. I really want to 100% complete this someday.

Minecraft (360 edition) - So this is a very early build (not sure the exact version) of Minecraft. Even set to a large world there are boundaries you can't cross. I did my usual survival run, built a cave, explored by boat, and dug a mine shaft to level 12. When I got to level 12 where the lava pools are, I excavated around them looking for rare matterials like diamonds. I eventually found a monster spawner room. I prepared myself for the assault with iron armor and sword, put my valuables away, and charged in. I thought it'd be a cake walk, but I was taking more damage and giving less than I expected and chaos ensued. This spawner was right next to a lava pool and you can guess what happened during the melle. I fell in and had a nice lava bath. Oops! That's how it goes in Minecraft. Even on Easy, accidents can happen. Normally, I'd have respawned and continued but this was a just a revisit and I stopped - end of the line. Until my next reincarnation as Steve (problably Steve1000 by now).

Bought This Week

I went on a little binge in celebration of getting my car back. Except for the first and last listed, these fill holes in my physical collection for Xbox 360. I got most of them for under $10. Only EDF 2017 and Ni No Kuni II were $15, must haves for me. I listed these by the stores I went to.

ClassicGameJunkie (Landsdale location) - Ni No Kuni II (PS4) (bought with trade-in money)

Just Press Play - Earth Defense Force 2017 and XCOM: Enemy Unknown.

Complete in Box - Crackdown 1-2, Mass Effect, Borderlands, and Civilization Revolution.

Goodwill - Ticket to Ride Europe - a still sealed boardgame for $7. Bingo!

All CIB btw.

And that's a week. I'll be playing Peggle: Dual Shot on DS and Mass Effect on 360 next.
