The Game Hunt is Over

After going to four Gamestops within a ten mile radius of where I live, a Chick-Fil-A lunch, and several stops to blog at coffee shops, I've finished my day of picking up used games. I now have all but one (Panzer Tactics [DS]) of the non-Xbox 360 games I wanted that came out '06-'07. I'll have to save now for two weeks, but I'm pretty happy with my purchases. To finish off this rather lonely but fun day, I'm going to see the movie Planes. I don't have much hope for the story, but I'm going to love seeing all the different planes used.

Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles is a on-rails shooter that I always wanted to play. I just need to go pick up a Wii-Zapper online because GameStop doesn't carry those accessories anymore.

Earth Defense Force 2017 is a game I played on rental when it came out. My friend and I played it co-op. It's a third-person shooter where you basically run around shooting enormous bugs as they destroy buildings all around you. It's just dumb fun and the game knows it and doesn't try to do anything fancy; kinda like Pacific Rim did on film. There's no online co-op only split-screen for this however. It's sequel Insect Armageddon does have online co-op. I had to pick this up again to try and do an achievement run. My buddy has it too, so we'll be playing it in tandem not too long from now.

Lunar Knights [DS] Another gorgeous RPG for the handhelds for me. I can't get enough of these games. So great in the middle of the night before bed.

Contra 4 I've wanted to play since it came out. It's by Wayforward of Shantae fame. They've done a ton of DS games including Aliens: Infestation which I picked up a little while ago. Their games always look fantastic and have solid 2D platforming. I can't wait to play this.

The Settlers [DS] is a port of PC RTS Settlers II. There's lots of resource management ala WarCraft. This might not be the best place to start this series, but I hope it will be as good as the Age of Empires ports to DS which I love.

And now to have a snack and hit Planes in the theater to end my rather frustrating weekend or limited game time because my friend is trying to woo a woman. Some people need to get their priorities straight!

Glad you found everything! I need to save for many reasons, wish a bunch of new games could be one of them.

I really want to pick up SMTIV, Pikmin 3, and Dragon's Crown right now. Must resist...

Dude, nice haul. I actually have most of these games. Umbrella Chronicles is great co-op. I've wanted its sequel, The Darkside Chronicles, sincel it came out but its resale value has been stuck at $25 for a long time and I haven't wanted to spend that much. Poor Lunar Knights is a great game that has largely been forgotten. Contra 4 is my favorite of the bunch though. Such awesome old school action, and with sprites Laughing

I found out both Chronicles games are on the Resident Evil Chronicles HD Collection for PS3.

EDF EDF EDF!!! I can't wait to replay it and then dig into the sequel, especially in co-op. There's that Vita version out recently, but it seems better suited as a console game in my opinon.

I haven't checked in a while, but the Vita version was overpriced the last time I looked. If they drop the price I will probably grab it. I love the latest one.

I love Contra 4, but by the Gods that game is tough as shit! Plus I can't get the classic Konami code to work!Yell

Yea, I heard they made it just as tough as the original.

The best part of Planes was the Muppets Most Wanted preview beforehand.

I stink at Contra games, otherwise I would've picked up Contra 4.

Planes wasn't too bad. I loved all the flying and seeing all the different aircraft. I almost got bored of the story in the first thirty minutes but it built up quite nicely and became really engaging by the end. I want to play the game now but it's only out on Wii-U. I want a 360 verson.

It's kinda good to be limited in funds sometimes. You don't end up with such a huge backlog that way and you focus on that one game. I keep telling myself not to buy more but play more. I put in several more hours into Ni No Kuni last night. I want to hold off buying anything until I finish that one. It's not working though. I'm so nervous about missing out on Dragon's Crown and SMTIV right now. I want to get them before they go rare. Thus my daily dilemma.

Between your two blogs, it looks like you found some good stuff for your library. The original Uncharted is the last of the series I have yet to finish but I like it.

Looking at the DS games makes me want to pickup a 3DS XL. I've always liked the system and with Disney Infinity coming along it's another game I know I'd play.

You sir had a productive day even if you buddy wasn't there, good stuff!

The 3DS XL is frickin' awesome! I have the DSi XL also and it rocks too. I love the bigger screen. Both just feel right in my hands.

I made a list of the 360 '07 games I want and it's rather long. Maybe I should stick to my one-game-at-a-time plan, but it's so much fun trying out old games. Sometimes, a dumb or "bad" game is more fun than a AAA one.
