So the VGX Awards 2013 are determined by an advisory board of games journalists from most of the biggest magazines and news web sites except for a few awards that are voted on by viewers such as the Most Anticipated Game award. I can't really disagree with this list as I've only played Bioshock Infinite, Ni No Kuni, and Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon all of which were worthy of getting awards this year in my opinion. Take a look at this list and let me know what you think. Is it good or a bunch of nonsense?

I'm going to write my OWN Game of the Year Awards blog and it'll be posted in a few days!

Cool! I'm thinking of one too but there's so many games and it's so hard to narrow it down to just a few.

I don't know that I'm all that excited for Titanfall, but everything else sounds like what people have been talking about, so it's incredibly predictable, but nothing outrageously awful from what I can tell. Of course, I played exactly none of these games, so I really just have to go on what other people have said.

The Bioshock Infinite song is nice, but I don't know if I think "song of the year" when I hear it. Again though, have not played any of these. Cary's list should be interesting, though.

The only one that I raised an eyebrow at was Best Shooter being Bioshock. It was good, but best? I would've thought COD or Battlefield would've won that category.

Looks about par to me so no arguments here :)

From all the best of lists I've heard on my podcasts, this list is pretty close to those except that I've heard Spelunky mentioned quite a bit and that didn't make this list.

This list does seem pretty predictable. I'm glad to see Blood Dragon made it. I'm just now playing that game and it's awesome. It's like an 80's action movie in game form. Michael Biehn is the man! Cool

Yea, I laughed myself silly over the first hour of gameplay.

I'm not gonna disagree with what some other people think, especially since I haven't played as many games as others might have. Though it's a little depressing that the only game I've played that they listed was Animal Crossing.

Some of the luminaries on the advisory board that I recognize are:

Andy McNamara  - Game Informer Editor in Chief

Chris Kohler – Wired Games Editor

Francesca Reyes – Official Xbox Magazine Editor in Chief

Geoff Keighley – GameTrailers TV Producer

Jeff Gerstmann – Giant Bomb Editor in Chief

Jeremy Parish – USGamer.net Editorial Director

Mike Krahulik – Penny Arcade

Other people I don’t know but who work for such well known places as:

Destructoid, Entertainment Weekly, GameSpot, PC Gamer

Associated Press, Joystiq, USA Today, Polygon

     GamesRadar, Kotaku, and IGN.

That's a pretty comprehensive list of the sources of critique in gaming.

I'd love to hear the conversations that brought them to these choices. I kind of balk at GTA V as GotY but I'm cynical and don't like those kind of games anyway lol. But I've played, like, three of these, so what do I know?

I've never played much of the GTA series. I'm not attracted to the bad boy vibe of it but I acknowledge it's technical achievements. Sometimes these lists get me to try a game I wouldn't otherwise consider. Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons is one I might have overlooked if not for this list. I still haven't downloaded it though. I'm on the edge about it.

I had never heard of Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons but it's going to be a free game next month on PlayStation Plus, so I'm definitely going to download it.

I didn't give it much thought since I didn't much are for them to begin with. Atleast they are trying unlike the prior awards they offered in the past, they were originally the Spike TV VGA's before right?

I was thrilled when I learned that "The Last of Us" lost GOTY only to be disapointed when Naughty Dog won Developer of the year. Do right with one only to lose me with the other.

Yea, it was VGAs before. I forgot to watch it live this year, again, and just watched the highlights on their web site later. It's the only game awards show running so what the heck. I check it out.

I don't understand why they had two hosts. Geoff Keighley and Joel McHale. Geoff is the real gamer who askes great questions but I'm still trying to figure out why Joel was there. It seems like he was to represent the nongamers out there and just be rude to everyone. In the clip with TIm Schafer he makes a bunch of stupid "what kind of drugs were you on" comments and then Tim, when no one is looking, makes a "his breath stinks" gesture at the camera. Brilliant!

Last of Us got all the awards for voice work too.

it got voice work too?!?!

#@####$@%^&^*^%^^*^!!!!!

Why won't that game just die and be the last of itself!

For the last month I've had to hear about Last of Us on every podcast I listen to over and over again. I don't hate the game. It's seems pretty good. I almost bought it too, but it's reliance on stealth has me worried I won't like it.

I think Naughty Dog is doing another Uncharted now, so this might have been just a one time project; although, Last of Us did amazingly well in sales, so we might see a sequel sometime.
