Hey guys! Plus10Damage is doing their Top 10 of 2013 lists. The way it all works is that every writer posts the top 10 of the year, and we tally up points to see what ends up on the site's top 10. Then we argue what order they're in on a podcast. So yeah. Here's mine.

 http://plus10damage.com/blog/2014/1/1/blakes-top-10-of-2013

If you want to see the other guys lists, just check the site each day and there should be more lists up. Thursday is when the Plus10Damage top 10 list should be up, and friday is when the podcast is coming out. I think anyway. So make sure you check them ou!

Brothers is free on the PS3 this month for Plus members. I am looking forward to seeing how I can control both Brothers at the same time, very challenging I expect.

It takes a bit to get used to, and truth be told, you'll get mixed up. However, for the most part it's not as hard as it seems. If it's free, you should definitely grab it. It's an absolutely breathtaking game.

It does look good, I can not wait to play it.

Well, you just bumped Brothers from an eventually to a right away when it goes free on Plus. Looks good, but not sure if its my cup of tea. I agree on The Stanley Parable's humor too. I never expected to like a game where you do nothing but walk, but god damn that game was hilarious.

Brothers was not only a game I didn't think I'd like, but a game I thought I'd hate. Definitely give it a shot since it's free!

Also as a Nintendo fanboy, I can tell you that you're absolutely right about Rayman Legends. Beats the crap out of every New Super Mario Bros game. Only 2D platformer that comes close to Legends is Kirby's Return to Dreamland

Fair enough. I'm still umming and ahing over getting a nintendo console though. Is is worth getting one?

Also, Travis' list just came out. I think it might be more in line with your tastes if you want to check it out: http://plus10damage.com/blog/2013/12/29/traviss-top-10-games-of-the-year#comment-1189697536

Yeah, that is more in line with my tastes. But that Tomb Raider, bleh.

It's so shit! I don't understand why so many people love it!

I love that Guacamelee is still getting love. Thought that game would be forgotten.

I have only played three of these games, Guacamelee, Rayman and Assassins Creed.  Four of them I hope to play sometime this year, Brothers, Rogue Legacy, Shadow Warrior and The Stanley Parable.  The other three?  well I guess they do not interest me.

I do still need to play Rayman Legumes a lot more, but the couple of levels that I have played proved to me that you are correct in saying that it is the best 2D platformer of this past generation.(I may need to revise this statement if I find can remember a different one)  Mario's 2D offerings of late have been great, but not fantastic.  I don't even think that they are really part of the core Mario series.  The 3D entries are amazing though.

I hear amazing things about Galaxy, which is why I was hesitant to state it was the best platformer in general lol.

And really? Action RPGs and open world games aren't your thing then? Fair enough.

Grand Theft Auto hasn't really been my cup of tea since GTA2.  Weird I know.  I would be more inclined to play Saint's Row over GTA V, but I haven't played the series since the first game oh so many years ago.

As far as computery action RPGs.  I dont like the clicking part.  I liked Torchlight and those types of games on consoles, but on PC they just aren't my thing.  It's the controller thing.

Fair enough. BTW Saints Row 1 is kinda terrible. Every other game is a million times better than it.

Well, when you have a drought of games in the first 6 or so months of a consoles life you latch onto any game, like Saints Row, no matter how terrible it is.

damn, dude, Brothers is that good?  I own it but haven't played it yet.  Got to check it out.

have you looked at "Two Brothers" on Steam?  I'm really intrigued by it but haven't pulled the trigger yet.

Blake Turner Staff Writer

Yeah I've played it. I started an interview with one of the developers, but he kinda bailed on me on the third question and I never heard from him again. I asked him about what he thought of the increasing number of indie games that used the retro style and whether he thought it was harmful or helpful. Maybe it was a bit too edged for someone making a gameboy themed game. Then I didn't play it. I was supposed to get a review copy, but didn't, and after he abandoned the interview, I didn't much feel like playing his game.

But yeah. Brothers is amazing. Play to the end and you'll see why.

I have a Best Games of the Year blog up, too, if you're interested in reading it.

Well, I haven't played any games on your list so I guess I have no soul lol. I tried downloading Rogue Legacy and POE, but they wouldn't run on my crappy laptop. Damn this laptop!!!!! Yell

I'm glad to see Shadow Warrior make the list though. I plan on buying that (and maybe the new Rise of the Triad) when I finally upgrade. I'd recommend checking out the original if it's ever dirt cheap on Steam. It's similar to Duke 3D, but still great in it's own ways. That katana is so much fun to use!

Blake Turner Staff Writer

01/06/2014 at 08:38 PM

Yeah, the katana is a huge part of the original too! And Shurikens! I might give it a go actually. I heard its great! Rise of the Triad is good... but good luck getting it to run. It runs like ass on my pc, which is why I never play it. It drops framerates on a lot of pcs though unfortunately.

Oh. The original Shadow Warrior is free on steam. Fuck dirt cheap bahahaha!

If you have a Playstation plus membership, Brothers is Free for this month, so maybe give it a shot? I adored it!

That's a nice list.  I hadn't heard of many of those games.  I'll probably get Guacamelee at some point this year.  I just bought Brothers a few days ago off XBL.  I think it was only $5.

Thanks. This year is great in that everyone at plus10damage has a completely different list. I mean COMPLETELY different lol. It's crazy.

That's a damn good price for brothers. It's free for ps+ memvers apparently too.

Different lists are great.  I like to see lists with games I hadn't heard of.  It gives me a chance to broaden my horizons. Cool

Blake Turner Staff Writer

01/06/2014 at 09:51 PM

Yeah, I like them too! Also, only 4 games on this list are pc exclusives. So all of the rest are available to most :)

Wow brothers for the number one spot eh, I think I'll have to give it a try. GTA 5 had an instant click with me but something that was lost after I bought the car I wanted, though if Rockstar ever get around to adding a zombies mode I'd be in love again!

Blake Turner Staff Writer

01/07/2014 at 01:55 PM

Yeah. Brothers just spoke to me. It represents what I want from gaming: Interactive stories told through the medium itself, as opposed to simply aping other genres *cough cough* The Last of Us.

I bought Brothers on the 360 and it turns out it's going to be free on PS+. Oh well it must be good.

Seriously you're a Luchador, how do people not buy Guacamelee? I'm still trying to finish it, but boy it is a lot of fun for the Vita.

Blake Turner Staff Writer

01/07/2014 at 01:57 PM

Yeah, everyone keeps saying it was free on PS+. Realistically, it's still amazing even if you paid full price. What did you pay for it?

And yeah. I imagine Guacamelee would be awesome on Vita. I have no idea how so many people missed it.

goaztecs

I think it came out to $3.75. It was in December when a bunch of stuff on the 360 went on sale. The description made the game sound interesting (I haven't loaded it up yet), and I had some extra credit so I thought why not.

Yeah I don't either. Guacamelee was $5.00 and you got the PS3 version and the Vita version. I also bought the two DLC packs which were maybe $3 total.

Very interesting list Blake.

Never heard of Shadow Warrior, but now you made me interested in trying the game. Though because I recently bought Dishonored, I first must start with one Sword first person game before going into other.

I will wait till I get a Wii U to have Rayman Legends (been hearing it's the better version), though if I get impatient I can get the Steam version instead. Everything i've been hearing appeals to my plataforming love, and it helps that not only I love the first Rayman Origins, but it ended up as my favorite 2D plataformer for the Wii. But you're also right that Nintendo has made great plataformers recently, as this Wii gamer can attest.

The Stanley Parable also looks interesting. I will try the demo first to see if it clicks me.

Goddamit Rockstar, bring GTA V to Steam now! I played the first minutes of the game on my cousin's PS3 and I was very impressed.

Oh yeah, Dishonored is amazing. I just finished that yesterday. The law and world of the game is brilliant!
