RETRO FEVER is upon me and some new purchases have just rolled in for Sega Genesis and Playstation. Feast your eyes.

                                     devilish

                                                      Devilish [Genesis]

This was on my list for Ball and Paddle style games. It’s a lot like Breakout but with an upper and lower paddle and with a vertically scrolling environment. There’s even a story and boss battles. I guess this is about as complex as a Breakout style game can get.

                                   rcsc

                                                       R/C Stunt Copter [PS]

This was on my list of Flight Sim games to try and has been on other lists of mine for years. I saw two copies of the game at Jay Street Video Games, so I grabbed one. It was developed by Shiny Entertainment, makers of Earthworm Jim and MDK, and by all accounts is rated very highly by critics. I’m still looking for Resuce Copter and RC Helicopter on Playstation.

                                           sg3

                                                             Genesis 3 Console

My buddy gave me one of his extra Genesis consoles. This is the one put out by Majesco Entertainment in 1998 as a budget model. It’s very compact and seems to have all the basic inputs the regular Genesis has. I have to get a controller and a component cable however.

Genesis 3 looks awesome. We never had SEGA systems in the house, but I definitely thought their consoles were more attractive than Nintendo's, maybe more attractive than even Sony's, depending on generation.

Sega never did top the success of the Genesis. Something about CD's really messed them up and they created the abomination that was Sega CD. They started to get it together with the Saturn and then stepped ahead of everybody with the Dreamcast, but it never really took off for them. It's too bad. Sega had some cool ideas going with the Dreamcast.

I wish I had a Genesis 3.  That thing looks nice.

It's not much bigger than my Vita.

There's a version of Devlish on the DS, too.

Oh wow. It's called Devilish: Ball Bounder and it's the sequel to Devilish. Came out in NA for DS in 2007. Neato!

That Genesis looks like a cable box lol. Nice of your friend to let you have it. Devilish actually had a rerelease on the DS but I heard it wasn't too good. But who am I to talk. I love the Genesis game Sub-Terrania and that one certainly has its share of problems.

The controls sound like the game Gravitar a little bit, and I just saw a boss that looks like Sinistar a little bit in this speed run on youtube.

This game's pretty cool.

I think I made it to that first water level once. Cool to see the rest. It really is a pretty hard game.

I remember hearing that the creator of Cool Spot made R/C Stunt Copter.

Holly sheesh! It's David Perry founder of Shiny Entertainment, creator of 7UP's mascot, Cool Spot, and who cofounded Gaikai, that cloud based service that's making Playstation Now possible. This guy gets around.coolspot

Oh wow I remember that Genesis. We had the original model, but I remember that version on store shelves. Cool that your friend gave you one, and I don't think it should be that hard to find the cables for it.

Deviish looks like a game I'd play. I'm going to be on the lookout for the Genesis and/or the DS versions.

I think it's neat that the background scrolls. That adds a new twist. I'm also looking for the Arkanoid games.

Wow, a Genesis 3! I didn't even know it existed until I saw a video about it recently. I remember the person who made the video said that it has a problem playing certain Genesis games, so be careful.

Well, if that happens, I'll have to track down an original deck. I used to have one, but traded it since most of the games are now on various collections for PS2, Xbox, PSP and Xbox360. However, a game like Devilish is only available on the Genesis, so I need one for games like that.

Nice pickup on the Genesis 3. I had bought a model 1 version at a thrift store a while back for like $5. I haven't used it that much, but I'm looking forward to getting to it eventually. There were a lot of great Genesis exclusives.

Among other things, I used to love playing board games on it like Monopoly and Risk.

Always thought about snagging a Genny 3 but held off when I learned you can't hook up a 32X or play Sonic & Knuckles on it. I can understand not hooking up a Sega CD or a Master System converter but no sega 32X? Even the CD-X could do that!

That is kinda annoying. I don't remember using the 32X thing for much anyway. Now a CD. That I need.
