Anything Can Happen Saturdays

Ok, this is my musical contribution to our "Days of the Week" musical selections.

Homeless does Metal Mondays and Punk Tuesdays. Snee is doing Modern Classical Wednesdays, at the moment Thursday's are open though I'm hoping V will get his ass in gear and pick that up. Last but certainly not least we have Rangergirl on Folk Fridays.

What to do on the weekends, well given my varied and strange musical tastes I'm calling this "Anything Can Happen Saturdays". Partly due to my eclectic tastes and partly because I'm about as easy to focus as a pinball.

Today is Guitar Hero Saturday. Hopefully it will feature some guitarists you haven't heard of and/or can enjoy if you like that sort of thing.

My first artist is Allan Holdsworth, a virtuoso axe man who I originally know from a band called Soft Machine. Without further ado here we go.

Metal Fatigue - Okay I find the song portion of this to be fairly cheesy but it serves to show off Allan's playing pretty well (warning. This is not Metal. LOL)

Next is a killer piece of modern Jazz played live - Water on the Brain. On this track the whole band kills. Not just Allan but the drummer and bass player are just smokin'

The next is a piece from his Sand album called Pud Wud. The guitar work is as usual bloody brilliant.

I shall end with Sphere of Innocence, a light and pretty piece.

um hello?  hello mothman?  I haven't heard of any of this stuff, except.... maybe.... Soft Machine, which I think named their band after a William S. Burroughs "novel".

thank you for enriching my day.  I'm thinking of doing a funk day but I don't know what day.  I think I might have it be funk, soul, and old rock n roll and R&B too maybe.

What? No Richard Thompson? I would have let you have him for this entry! Well, I'll just have to add him myself!

LOL,

Great track but since I was doing Allan Holdsworth Richard just didn't fit.  His picking is beautiful though.

Oh and I will get to some acoustic stuff too. Eventually

Did you notice that Joe Step had started doing Ska Saturdays?  I say the more music the better.

Yep, I agree. I haven't seen Joe's blog yet. It must have slipped off the front page before I was on. I must correct that.

^To be specific, I did Ska/Punk (the fusion of punk or pop-punk music with horns sections, basically)  Saturday today, might consider doing just ska once or twice though.

I do like the idea of "anything can happen" though, as my music tastes are very diverse as well.

I'll be honest, shred is not necessarily my favorite, though I do love the occassional tune from Steve Vai ("For the Love of God"), Joe Satriani ("Surfing with the Alien" is ok, plus he trained Kirk Hammett), or especially "Cliffs of Dover" by Eric Johnson (I know their names and a couple songs, but I opt for vocally driven music, mostly, Chickenfoot was decent), but I do love the relaxing nature of these Hodsworth tunes, and hey, Metal Fatigue has lyrics even! lol

The more music the merrier I say!

NOT METAL?! WHAT IS THIS BLASPHEMY?!

Nah I do quite like Alan Holdsworth. A bit sick of him now because I played "Devil Takes Hindmost" for music in my hsc.

I was thinking guitarists yesterday and decided to start with one who isn't as well known as the Satriani's and Vai's of the world.
