I played about seven hours’ worth the other day. I’m now up to 65 hours in this game according to the in-game player stats. My friend Mark and I played co-op the whole time on Vault Hunter difficulty. This level of difficulty will really test you and make you think about every item you’ve equipped and whether it’s doing the job you want. Whenever you see a mission labeled “normal” in this difficulty, you know it’s closer to “impossible”. We tried one and got beat real bad. After that we stuck to “trivial” labeled missions. And bosses. Ha! We went up against Wilhelm, the crazy giant robot, and got summarily slapped around like little bugs. The good thing is, of course, that you level up much quicker and item drops are noticeably better.

I found an orange rarity (second to highest, pearlescent being the highest) shield that when depleted sends out pulses of fire. I noticed I was doing quite a bit of damage with this fiery pulsing. I actually thought of just running around with no shield since it seemed to be doing more damage than my weapons.

I like the feel of Vault Hunter mode. It’s like any other tough shooter and you have to strategize. I was using cover like I was playing COD, and switching weapons according to enemy type. It seems like I should have four different sniper rifles, one with each type of elemental damage to handle all the different enemies. Fire for instance doesn’t work very well against robots and certain types of fire wielding humans. There’s also Slag damage that lowers an enemie’s resistance to damage. That’s a good one to use in tandem with another weapon or player.

All this leveling and tweaking of equipment is all to prepare for the “impossible” side mission in the main game and the Hyperius battle in Pirate’s Booty. These are the last missions I have to finish in both and they are brutally tough even on “normal” difficulty with two players. It’s strange to me that we blew through the main game and Pirate’s Booty’s missions pretty quickly on “normal” difficulty, but these last side missions were so much harder. It’s like they left one really hard mission to get you to come back to level grind.

In New Stuff this week is Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy out on Friday, which I preordered the other day, and two game releated comics, Halo: Escalation #3 and Mass Effect Foundation #8. There were three other comics not directly related to games I’m going to pick up tomorrow: The Massive #20, Unbral #4, and a new King Conan: Conqueror #1 that I’m super excited about because it’s done by my favorite team: writer Timothy Truman, artist Tomas Giorello, and colorist Jose Villarrubia. Also, the Myasaki film Wind Rises is out this coming weekend. I mistakenly thought it was last weekend.

It’s definitely a good week for stuff.

Never seen a screenshot of BL2 in snow, only seen dessert ... snow looks way better.

Yea, the colors really pop in the Arctic zones.

The cover alone to that comic has me interested.

That team of Truman/Giorello/Villarrubia is special. There's the Brian Wood ongoing Conan comic out there too right now, but I don't like that one. Conan is a smirking jokester in that series. In this one, he's deadly and intense just like he should be. The art is incredibly good too. Very detailed and richly colored.

I am still looking for a comic book store since the one in town closed. Which really sucks. So I think I might end up buying omnibuses and graphic novels on amazon for the time being.

I'm slowly warming to Amazon since I keep getting gift cards for it every year at Christmas.

I love Borderlands 2. If you think True Vault Hunter mode is tough, wait till you get a load of Ultimate Vault hunter mode. I don't mean to plug the game but all of the main DLC packs are worth getting (the Head Hunter dlc not so much, but not bad). The Drop rates for legends and pearls are much higher in UVHM and even better once you hit lv72. Also if you feel like your gear is not getting the job done, and your on PS3 there is an easy little glitch that will let you raid the chest in Santuary as much as you want. I have a step by step of how to do it in one of my older blogs if your interested. I am always down to do drops too although I don't think I have anything under lv 61.

On the comic front I have to highly recomend Wolverine: Old Man Logan. It came out about 5 - 7 years ago so you might have already read it. I was missing some issues so I found the complete book on Amazon not long ago. Mark Miller is as vicious as ever and Steve McNiven's gritty realism totally complement each other.

Ultimate is great although a bit tough, the key is that you have to slag everything if you want to do any real damage. You also get Legendary loot midgets. They will randomly jump out of chest and lockers and will usually drop something pretty good when you kill them. Even better are tubby enemies. They are a better version of the chubby from TVHM, drop legendary class mods and the occasional legendary weapon.

I saw a Chubby Spiderant yesterday.

Whoa! Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode? I guess you have to beat the main story on VHM to get access to UVHM? I am getting all the DLC. I just have to figure out how to gift some of them to my co-op buddy who's out of dough at the moment. Are there points cards for 360 still?

Ultimate Vault hunter mode is included in the ultimate vault hunter DLC pack, bumps your level cap to 61. But you still have to beat TVHM to access it. The Digistruct Peak DLC bumps lv cap to 72.  I have a PS3 , not familiar with 360 or point cards. I know some people on PS3 would let a friend use their PSn acount to dwonload it but it can screw stuff up doing it that way.

So here is the edited version so you don't have to go looking for it. Hope it helps.Laughing

First is the golden key trick. This is a useful way to improve your arsenal if drops have been skimpy or you want to sell a bunch of pricy stuff for money to spend at the slot machines. First of all you have to have two controllers and two characters who have made it to Sanctuary. So start your game with the character you DO NOT want loot for. Once you are in Santuary press start to pause the game. Use controller 2 to bring in your second player (the character you DO want loot for). It will give you a warning about using the same profile, continue anyway because it will not effect what you are doing. Press triangle to open the profile load screen and choose the person you want loot for. Once you do this hit circle on controller 1 then X to comfirm you want to bring player two in. Player 2 will spawn with 11 golden keys. You can now loot the chest with player two. You can exit and return over and over and you will get 11 golden keys everytime. Now about the warning. Any loot you get this way must go into the backpack or bank of either of your two characters. If you try to stash any of it in clap traps secret stash it will not be saved and will be lost. The keys will not be saved either, use them or lose them. Also any badass tokens used or any new u changes to player 2 will not be saved.

The last tip is about duping stuff. This is the easiest and most fool proof way and you can even use it  to dupe stuff to your other characters. So start a trade by holding circle. Add the item you want to dupe then select Duel. Have the other person or charatcer select duel. Once the duel begins open the menu on the character who put their gear up, drop these items, you may have to move them to or from your equiped gear to get them to drop. Once you drop them close the menu and have your other character or the other player kill you. When they win the duel the items will be duped to them and you simply go pick up the stuff you dropped. IMPORTANT! Always make sure if your duping for some one else that they know how this works. If they defeat you before you drop your stuff they will win it and you will lose it.

So thats all for today, happy hunting.

Reading your blogs about BL2, makes me want to put some time into the game, the only bad part is I would get motion sickness, but damn it sounds like so much fun.

It's pretty darn awesome. Too bad you get motion sickness. From first person games I'm guessing?

Yup, I don't know what happened, I was good with them on the original Playstation, but once I tried them on the PS2 motion sickness. It must be the bump in graphics.

and the Borderlands 2 saga continues. I probably should see about getting this game this weekend given how the DLC is on sale on XBLA. but I've yet to get the first game and I think I should get that first before buying the sequel.

I think you get something in the second game after you play the first, but I forget what. It's not necessary though. B2 features new characters that you play as. The characters from the first game reappear as NPCs which is kinda neat. It's like B2 feels like a totally new experience, but some of the characters from the first game are arround to remind you it's the same world. So it's totally not necessary to play the first game first. It's not like Mass Effect where you can carry over your character or anything.
