Borderlands 2 is really pissing me off. Too many choices. Also, I find it weird that when you’re in a fight, the Badass versions of the enemy are so much harder than the rest of them. I mean, I take a shot at the regular crew and they go down with a couple criticals but badasses, no way, the meter bairly moves for those suckers. I nick off a few points while my same-level gunzerker friend takes big chunks out of them. Then a loot midget appears, a robot one that can transform into a jet, and I’m having the same trouble, just doing hardly any damage despite criticals and my friend tackles it, not easily, but does so in fairly short order. I’m so annoyed! I did notice that although we are at the same skill level, he has logged twice as many hours as I have in the game. I just topped 100 hours and he is well over 200. That probably means his equipment is just better than mine. So, oh well, I gotta run around like a lame duck while my friend mops up all the hard enemy types. BAH!

                             krieg

                                                          Krieg. Pscho class.

I realized the other day that I wasn’t leveling anymore because I don’t have the DLC that increases the level cap. I’ll get it eventually, but I think I’ll just go back to one of the other class types like the Commando or Gunzerker. Or maybe I’ll unlock the Psycho or Mechromancer and try those out; I've been feeling a little psycho and mech-romantic lately.

Tomorrow is St. Patty’s day and I’ll be at my friend’s place playing all day, so I’ve got to figure out a fun plan to play B2 because these True Vault Hunter Mode battles are getting me down.

I’m beginning to find that Prof Layton is a real bore. He and Prof Sycamore can shove their puzzles - those stuffed shirts. Just to make things interesting, I imagine all the characters to be openly gay like it was a John Waters movie. The mini-games would be “hilarious” (said in Jerri’s voice from Strangers with Candy).

                                                hilarious

"I did things I wouldn't force on a mule, and that includes things I forced on a mule."

Anyway, I’m at the part where you get in the airship and travel around looking for Azran artifacts all over the world. You land, investigate by dragging the stylus all over the screen ‘til it changes color, talk to people until they give you a puzzle, “give me that puzzle dammit!” (this game could be cool as a Mafia game where you shake down people for puzzles – the world’s currency), then move on in the story. Sometimes you find collectibles or hint coins, or cause an animation to happen in the environment, or unlock more mini-games. This is all very neat, but I often feel like I’m not doing much and just watching a movie for the most part and solving some puzzles, which are mostly pretty easy.

Well, 15 hours in and still hanging in there. I want to see more of these environments, which are very charming and beautiful, but one more Squirrel Snacks puzzle and it’s just possible I might snap my 3DS in half. How would that be for a strongman (or strongwoman) challenge. Grrrrr SNAP!

I think I found in Phantasy Star Portable what was lacking in Borderlands II. It has a gazilion weapons too and the three races (Caste,Human, and Neuman) are very diversified as are the primary classes.

I also like it because though there are guns it plays more like an rpg brawler hybrid. But hey,to each their own!

I just found it odd how much I loved the 1st Borderlands yet the second one rubbed me wrong. (Even with all its' improvements.)

I've had the same frustrations with both Borderlands games playing the ranged attack class. Maybe it would work better with four player co-op instead of two. I'm excited to try out the other classes though. Maybe I'll find the sweet spot in this game.

I played a little bit of PSO on Xbox 360. I didn't take to it, but I'd be willing to give it another shot.

Just to me it seemed like the original Borderlands was balanced better when compared to its' sequel. Maybe I'm just nutso though. Tongue Out

I dunno, seems like B2 is better in every way to me. B2 is just set up to be way more challenging. You've got to do some serious equipment research to succeed at True Vault Hunter difficulty and up. More players helps too.

My friend's place is in a very Irish community. They have the Irish Times newspaper in the WaWa there. I think I'll have a Guinness in a German stein so my German side can toast my Irish side.

Man, you totally got me.  I was sure that you were going to talk about Turok.

I played a bit of the first Professor Layton, but I never actually got into the series.  I don't think that I spent enough time with it to actually write the series off, but it didn't wow me enough to play more.

I was worried someone would expect some Turok talk, but I just couldn't resist adding the word "cerebral" at the last minute.

Is playing Prof Layton like getting a Cerebral Bore to the skull? Not quite that bad, a near miss leaving a long scar is closer to the mark.

If you hadn't been talking about Turok in the past week, i probably wouldn't have even brought it up.

I'm thinking about getting the new Turok comic again. I stopped after issue 1, but I may get back into it.

Badass's are well, badasses. They are kind of like mini bosses and loot midgets are also considered badasses. As for your assasin, sniper rifles sadly become less effective in True and Ultimate modes. Mostly because you have to slag enimies to do serious damage which of course ruins catching them off guard. Personaly I made better use of him with a more melee focused build. Expiramenting with the other class's until you can lv him some more is a good idea, every one has a fovorite and its not alway the first choice. Zero is my least favorite simply because he is kind of hard to use, but he was my first choice.

I was using a sniper rifle with slag damage for a while there. I found it took too long for me to switch weapons to fire the follow up shot though. Now with the gunzerker you can dual wield which is perfect for this. Put a slag gun in one hand and a different damage weapon in the other and go gunzerking. That's what I'm going to experiment with tomorrow - a St. Patty's Day slag fest!

Sal is a lot of fun. I 'm currently working on getting my zerker from lv 64 to 72.

I'm shadowing my lvl 50 buddy right now to power level to 25.

I didn't like the first Prof. Layton game because the puzzles used too much math and I don't like math.  I'm looking forward to the Prof. Layton vs. Phoenix Wright game, but I am worried about any possible math puzzles on the Prof's side.

I may have said it before, but I highly recommend the Prof. Layton cartoon movie.  It's very good, and I love how they implement puzzles into the film.

Cool strongwoman, but don't let her rip your 3DS in half!  Then you wouldn't be able to play Yoshi's New Island!

I can't remember the last time I actually used a phone book for anything, though.

This darn puzzle drove me just nutzo! I HATE THIS THING!

It would be nice if you could download the movie onto the 3DS. I guess I could watch it there on Netflix if it's streaming. Maybe on Hulu? I kinda want a cart movie like a UMD movie for PSP to have for my 3DS.

I have no idea.  I got the movie on DVD.

Maybe I'll pick it up on Amazon sometime.

In borderlands 2 are you cashing in those badass ranks??? Those make all your characters a lot stronger.

KnightDriver

03/17/2014 at 01:13 AM

Since the beginning I've been cashing them in for weapon damage, recoil stability, and elemental damage boosts. Lot of good it does me. I still have to run for my life when a badass shows up.

I chased most of the weapon related ones. I'm still missing a Jenkins kill for the achievement. My friend has been going after all the location based ones too, but I haven't paid those much attention because there's no achievement attached to them. Maybe that's another reason why he's so far ahead of me.

I haven't continued the first Prof. Layton. Keep meaning to do that because I was digging the game, even if logic puzzles aren't my strong point.

KnightDriver

I have a slight anxiety over logic puzzles. They remind me of tests.

Now that's an interesting idea, puzzles as currency. I'd be as broke as I am now anyway since I'm no good at most puzzles but at least it'd be fun.

KnightDriver

03/18/2014 at 02:19 AM

Yea, you'd go to a store to buy something, and the more valuable the thing is that you want to buy, the harder the puzzle they'd give you to solve in order to get it.

In Prof. Layton, puzzles are used for everything: they're the battle system, they're like currency, they're part of key conversations that progress the story, they even just pop out of animals like they're a universal form of communication.

So after reading your blogs I decided to give Boarderlands 2 a try. I bought a copy at Toys R Us, enjoyed what I'm playing and then realized that the Vita version will be able to cross save with the PS3, so now I am going to start playing the PS3 version first

KnightDriver

The Vita version is interesting. I just read this IGN review and they had some issues with it. What I like is the Vita Slim bundle coming this spring.

b2bundle

I kinda wish the Vita itself had some B2 design on it though. That would be way cool.

I figured there would be some problems especially with the two missing buttons. I tend to rest my fingers on the touchpad so there might be a lot of cussing from me when my character does something I don't want them to do. After playing through Killzone, I think I'm ok with shooters on the Vita because I don't get as dizzy (which is odd) but I do need to keep it to one level per play.

I think Sony did miss out on not giving the new Vita a custom paint job for this pack.

I totally wanted to see a Vita done up all in Borderlands art.

that's the one thing I wasn't sure about with that game. Sounded too complicated for a game with the core basis of just shooting things like an FPS. I know it's a hybrid but It might add too much for me. I hardly can get use to the games that have you upgrade your guns with attachements, let alone gun upgrades and armor. I can handle it in my RPG's, oddly not so much with my FPS's.

I have the same weird division in my mind between FPS and RPG. B2 pulls me in both ways at once. I'm constantly getting interrupted by enemies while gazing at my stat page. "Let me finish crunching these numbers will you!", I yell. It's like stop-and-go driving. It just drives me crazy.
