I bought Dark Souls 2 for console. I couldn't wait another 3 months for my preordered copy to come on pc, so I bought it. And it is oh so good.

I'll have a review coming out for the pc version when it comes out, but for now, let me just say I'm loving every mnute of it. I've played 15 hours in 2 days (thank you holidays!) and I'm up to The Lost Bastille. I'm stuck on those three bosses. Well... when I say that, I mean I rarely get to the three bosses because fighting 9 enemies at a time is fucking hard.

Oh well. Some changes I like:

- I like that you can respec. Dark Souls is hard, but at least now there's a little bit of forgiving, and if you stumble across a weapon with lots of strength but your a dex build, you can change it without grinding for a year.

- I LOVE the new animations. Cloth looks awesome :)

- I love the return of a certain boss. The Old Dragon Slayer... not so tough without your buddy, are you?

- Magic uses stamina now, which stops it from being super OP.

Now, some things I don't like.

- Your shield takes time to bring up. Meaning if you don't level up your adp you can get stunlocked by and enemy and have no chance to recover.

- So far, the atmosphere isn't as awesome as the previous games. It doesn't feel as depressing as Dark Souls, and it doesn't feel as creepy as Demon's Souls.

- The world doesn't feel as connected as Lordran.

However, this is still a great game. I don't know if it's better than the previous 2, but it's still amazing, and I look forward to losing plenty more time to it in the future.

Excellent news! You should stop by the forums and chat lore and shit with us. Chris and I already finished it, but a couple others are making their way through the game now.

I still have to get through Dark Souls yet. I am amazed how quick some people can plow through these games. My approach to Dark Souls is slow and methodical as shit.lol  DS2 with be in the $20 pile by the time I get around to it.Money Mouth

thats about the time i'll get back around to it.

Fortunately though, the Souls games have such a ravenous fanbase that there will always be people to PvP with and to summon for boss help, even 2 years from now.  There are still a lot of heads playing Dark Souls...nary a used copy to be found within my county line

what i liked about the first one is how connected the world was.  it was genius level design.  It's too bad this one isn't like that, but I understand why you can't do that all the time.

Glad you're enjoying it. I had to put DS1 on hold when by XBL Gold expired, now it freezes every time I try to load my save

Would you recommend it to someone who has not played the previous entries in the series?

It seems to be the easiest to get into for beginners. It has the best tutorial, where to go is a bit more explicit, and the early levels are a bit easier. That could be because I know what I'm doing though.

I know you said to not get the PC version of the first Dark Souls, but I'm tempting to buy that one because I really want to get into the series.

It is a bad port. You can fix it with mods, but it is still poorly optimised and won't run on a lot of machines. Honestly, if you're going to play it on pc, wait for Dark Souls 2. It is an excellent game and I hear the port is great too. Also, it seems like it's easier to jump into than any of the previous souls games were.

So I guess each of the games is a different experience. That said, i'll take your word for it, though I don't know if I'll ever play Demon and Dark Souls since the only 7th gen console I have is the Wii. I could with buy a PS3, but i'm keeping my money for the Wii U and maybe for a Vita.
