Why can't I buy my PSN+ games

I don't intend to let my membership lapse which means that until Sony shuts down PSN on the PS3 I won't lose anything but there is one nitpicky thing that bothers me.

If you get a game as part of your membership there is no way to buy it permanently. This week's 99 cent sale is a prime example.

I got a couple of the Crash games and the first three Spyro games through PSN+. So they expire if I stop paying for the service. They are on sale for 99 cents this weekend but it is not possible for me to buy them because they are listed as "Purchased".

It should be possible to "buy out" your PSN+ games if you decide you want to keep them, especially when those games go on sale for next to nothing. Sony would benefit from this approach too so I'm not sure why they haven't thought of it yet.

that's a good point.  However, I thought this 99 cent sale was for everybody not just PSN+ members.  I think if you buy games at a PSN+ discount you do own them forever, it's just not the ones you get for free.

Oh I know it's for everybody but I couldn't pay for them if I wanted to because I already got them for "free"

I looked up to see if there was way and apparently there isnt. The only way is to make another PSN account and buy them on that one.

That might work Ncole but it's just convoluted

Uninstalling may be a good route, but this is all why I'm not sold on subscription services as a new model for gaming and I hope either physical copies or digital downloads that you keep are in our future as opposed to subs.

Nope, wouldn't work. Even if you uninstall a game it is listed on PSN as purchased.

The only thing that might work is creating a second account and using it to buy games you want to keep when they go on sale, but that's just messy.

Hey try un installing the free games delete psn app and reinstall psn and then see if you can

That has been the one main issue that has kept me from getting PSN+. And its just a matter of time before they stop supporting it. This is already happening with Wii multiplayer and the server that was handling multiplayer for Borderlands 1. They both expire in May. I just hope Sony is smart enough to integrate the old PSN into the new PSN so us PS3 lingerers don't get screwed.

Well I'm thinking that any discounts we got are still ok. It's just the monthly free with subscription games that are the problem.

Damn.  That's messed up.

This is another reason that I will continue to support indie developers, eventhough their games seem to end up on PS+.

Hey, I love PS+. This just seems like an obvious hole. If Sony can make another 99 cents a game from me why wouldn't they?

thats one thing I always wondered about PS+ if it let you have the option to buy the games you got for free from their service. looks like I wont be getting PS+ anytime soon. as much as I like free, I'd rather have a chance to buy a game on sale than have it offered to me with the stipulation of paying a subcription fee. Plus its taking forever for all the games I bought to download.

I left a comment yesterday, but was using my phone and for some reason it wouldn't let me edit my half-dozen mistakes that I noticed after posting it, so I deleted it.

Anyways, I've encountered a similar problem that seems to be related to the same type of thing as your problem.  I couldn't get the freebie Mega Man 9&10 pack because I already bought Mega Man 9.  I'm sure they added these restrictions so someone wouldn't pay twice for the same game and then complain to them about it, but there has to be a better way than just out-right restricting these types of transactions, especially when dealing with the free PSN games.  Just an added menu when buying games would be enough, something like a pop-up saying "You have already downloaded this game from the PSN.  Are you sure you want to re-purchase this item?"

Yeah it wouldn't be difficult. Even just flagging your PSN+ downloads as such and adding a button that appears conditionally that says Buy Permanently. When clicked it would simply charge you the current purchase price and remove the expiry date on the game.

I never really thought about this, and I agree this is terrible. It would be nice if PS+ did offer some kind of option to purchase the "freebie" games if you want to opt out of PS+. I had my account end for a couple of days and I had a bunch of games on the PS3 that I couldn't touch.

Well like I said I don't intend to let mine lapse because it is worth it for the discounts alone but I've heard that if you do stop subscribing and then start again all the games you had will work again.

Yeah they get reactivated plus there is a timer in the info screen of the game that let you know how many days you have left before you have to renew your subscription.

I hadn't realized that but you're totally right. You'd think Sony wouldn't mind making extra money off us. Or maybe they few it as an incentive to keep us subscribed? OR maybe it's an oversight on their part lol. Anyway, it's annoying now that you bring it to my attention.

That's strange, the option to 'buy out' the game seems like a no brainer.
