A Look At Some May Releases

May’s looking pretty good for new releases. I’ve got four I’m keeping close tabs on and one I’m preordering for sure. Which one is it? Read on.

May 7: Raven’s Cry [PS3/PS4/X360 what about X1?]: Pirates! I love pirates! It looks a lot like Risen 2: Dark Waters that I got a year or so ago, but found too difficult. I love the locations in this game: you’re on islands, sailing the seas, and probably roaming through caves. I love that variety in landscape in the game and the variety of weapons from swords to pistols to cannon.

Swordplay, pistols, canons, and dragging women around by the hair? Wah?!

May 9: Bound By Flame [PS3/PS4/X360 what about X1?]: It’s a third-person action RPG that reminds me of Dragon’s Dogma. You are infected by a demonic influence and you can choose a demonic or angelic path that affects your appearance ala Fable. It looks from the trailer that there might be a little romance in the game as well which reminds me of The Witcher. The fighting looks really fun.

May 20: Wolfenstein New Order [PS3/PS4/X360/X1]: I really liked the last two Wolfenstein games, both done by Raven. I’m troubled that Raven isn’t doing this but MachineGames is made up of ex-Starbreaze developers who made the Riddick and The Darkness games, both good series. So I’m optimistic. This game seems to have big action moments and lots of first person shooting with WWII style weapons and probably some experimental ones and possibly occult magic like in the last Wolfenstein game.

There’s a whole lotta neck stabby goin’ on here. Ew!

May 27: Watch Dogs [PS3/PS4/X360/X1/WiiU]: This is an open world game with lots of free running, third-person gunplay, and melee fighting by Ubi Soft Montreal who have done many great games like the Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry series. Your character seems to be able to hack everything from faces, to atms, to security cameras and who knows what else. It’s a graphical powerhouse and seems to have an enormous world to roam in.

                                             This guy’s a hacker hero

And the preorder winner is. . . Wolfenstein: New Order. I love a good FPS single player experience - just can’t resist it.

this is the first I've heard of Raven's Cry.  I like that pirate games are a thing now.

I'm actually pretty hyped to check out Watch Dogs.. but I don't have a next gen console or a computer that can handle it.  I might buy a computer in time or shortly afterwards though.

Pirate games used to be so hard to find. There was Risen and that was about it. Then Assassin's Creed tried it in AC3 and it became a thing, taking over AC Black Flag. I love it. I still need to pick up AC Black Flag though.

It looks like all of these games are coming out on last gen consoles too. I wonder why Xbox One wasn't listed for the first two above though. That's disturbing to me even though I don't have any next gen systems.

my brother played Black Flag.  Loved it.  I think it's fun despite all the Assassin's Creed stuff.

I can't wait to play that game. One day. . .

None of these really excite me, Nintendo has my full attention for May between Kirby and Mario Kart.

I wish there was a 3DS game to excite me.

I am looking forward to Wolfenstein.  I really liked what I heard from the write-ups that I have read over the past couple of weeks.  It sounds as though it will be a good throwback with some modern FPS conventions thrown in...

While it is technically April, I know that I won't actually play Child of Light until May.

Yea, Child of Light releases the last day of April. I will be on that day-one and will also be playing it in May up until Wolfenstein's release.

Im def excited for Bound By Flame, I get a Kingdoms of Amular feeling from it. However I might have to be picky with my buys in May so I might only get 1 or 2 games. Im looking at Wolfenstien and Bound by Flame as those 2.

Oo KoA. I've been meaning to get to that one.

I'd love to get more than Wolfenstein, but I'll probably wait to see what the critics think of the others.

I'm not looking forward to any of those on your list, but there are a couple of games at the beginning and end of May that I'll be getting.

The first is Kirby Triple Deluxe.  You know I like my Kirby games.  I've even got a blog in the works to celebrate the release.  Expect it later next week.

On the same day, Mario Golf: World Tour will be released.  I loved the GameCube Mario Golf game, so I've got this one on reserve, too.  I've got a blog planned about that, too.

At the end of May there's Mario Kart 8 for Wii U.  Yeah, you guessed it, I have a blog in my head about that as well.

There are a couple of games that are coming out at the end of April that I'm going to get as well.  The first is the downloadable NES Remix 2.  And don't laugh, but I'm also looking forward to reviewing Gardening Mama 2: Forest Friends.  Yeah, I like those games.  Guess I'm not very manly, huh? :)

I've been curious about the Kirby games lately. The trailer for Triple Deluxe looks incredibly creative. I'm gonna have to try one of them sometime.

Mario Golf World Tour looks interesting too.

I'm sad that the Wii U version of Watch Dogs has been delayed. That's the version I want to get Frown

Using the gamepad would be rad with that game with all the scanning and hacking you do.

I haven't heard of the first two games on this list. Considering they a big-budget next-gen games, that makes me feel I've been living under a rock!

I didn't know about them either until I looked through the Coming Soon part of Metacritic and the Upcoming releases on allgame.com. Of course, now that I look at those lists again just now, I don't see Raven's Cry anymore. These release dates change almost daily it seems. This is why I only look a month ahead, but even that is sometimes unreliable.

The wiki page for Raven's Cry now has it out October 14th.

I would have gone with Watch Dogs, but Wolfenstein would be a close second were I to pre-order either.

I think Watch Dogs is going to win in sales over Wolfenstein. Just my guess. I like things to blow up real good. Give me Wolfenstein first.

Watch Dogs seems like it'd be a lot of fun, maybe when I finally get around to getting a WII U I'll pick it up as well.

Yea, Watch Dogs is really interesting. I just heard an interview with one of the devs on The Official Playstation Blogcast here: http://blog.us.playstation.com/2014/04/25/playstation-blogcast-118-watching-the-watch_dogs/

Only know two of those three games. Just goes to show how far behind I've become with current gaming as of late. Didn't trust Watch Dogs given that it has Ubisoft attached to it along with their use of UPlay in it. Sucks to be a PC gamer.

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Wolfenstein.....*drools*

I'm about to go pick up Bound By Flame. It's $25 used already.

Watch Dogs has blown up big. It sold a ton. Seems everyone wants to hack everything just like the main character in the game. It takes place in Chicago too. I guess it's like a hacking Assassin's Creed.

That Uplay thing is stupid. It popped up when I played Child of Light, but I ignored it. Another thing to sign into? No thanks. I've had enough of that.

Wolfenstein is outstanding. Much better than I even expected.
