12:55 – My buddy was looking up Borderlands 2 stuff and came across an easter egg of sorts regarding weapons you can get from Moxxi. If you tip her 15k she’ll give you her Guileless Bad Touch SMG; another 5K and she’ll give you Miss Moxxi’s Good Touch SMG. The Bad Touch vibrates a bit more than normal when shooting, and the Good Touch vibrates all the time, unless you’re sighting, and then pulses when you shoot. Get the joke?

That damn robot rabbit's too damn big!

Back to Taito Legends 2 and Liquid Kids. This is a 2D platform game where you’re a Hippo who throws water to subdue enemies which you then can knock out of the way for points. The water also interacts with the environment. I got to the first boss, a mechanical rabbit that shoots fire from its midsection. I got frustrated trying to get my water bombs to dowse its flame. The damn thing took up most of the screen, and I couldn’t help running into it and getting killed.  “Bah”, I say “Bah!”

                                                            The return trip.

Lunar Rescue is a cool 1979 game that combines Lunar Lander, Asteroids and Space Invaders. It’s a fixed screen game where your lunar module exits a ship at the top of the screen. You then negotiate a field of asteroids to land on targets. A person gets in and then you have to shoot through a field of moving enemy space ships to get back to the mother ship. You have thrusters and a fuel gage to watch, just like in Lunar Lander. I really liked this game. All its influences are even better in combination like this. Where has this game been all my life!

Then I played a bunch of Space Invaders updates like SA ’91 (also called Majestic Twelve), SP ’95 (which seems made for kids with big funny characters and colorful screens), and SP DX (it contains a parody version that is full of characters from Taito games). They’re all still just Space Invaders in the end, and that’s not too interesting to me.

Metal Black is very similar to the Darius games; although, I found the screen too crammed with stuff to be enjoyable. There’s an interesting power-up mechanic, but it wasn’t immediately understandable to me. I guess I should read the instructions. . . Nah!

Nastar Warrior is a game in the Rastan series of Conan-like hack-and-slash games. Some of the platform segments really put me off it. I’m reminded of the platform segment in the Tiny Tina’s Dragon Keep DLC from Borderlands 2 where you’re forced to do some impossible platform jumping. It’s just a joke there, but in Nastar Warrior it’s no joke, and I quit.

Furry? Or just wearing bunny ears. i can't tell.

Puchi Carat is like Bust-A-Move but you use a paddle at the bottom to bounce a ball into the gems ala Breakout or Arkanoid. You can play against a foe who sends gems to your side with combo hits and choose a character that animates behind the rows of gems depending on what you do all just like Super Puzzle Fighter II. I played as sexy bunny-eared Peridot, who strikes sexy poses as you play and seems to try and kiss you if you do well. All a win, win in my book.

Qix is one of those simple geometric games where you fence off areas of the screen and avoid electrical pulses. I’m not so into that style of gameplay. The Intellivision game Thin Ice is the same thing but with Penguins.

2:05 – Had lunch.

I liked Liquid Kids.  Can't remember if I beat it or not, but I got pretty far.

Lunar Rescue just looks like they ripped Space Invaders graphics and pooped out a new game.

I love the Space Invaders updates on Taito Legends.  Looney Landers (Space Invaders '95) is hilarous and they even make fun of other Taito games in it (like Darius fish bosses on a seafood platter).  Majestic Twelve was also fun, and the update that has all tlhe other Taito characters in it is neat, too.  Have you ever played Space Invaders Extreme?  You should put that on your list after Arkanoid DS.

As I said before, I loved Metal Black.  It was originally going to be a Darius sequel.

Never really got into the Rastan games, myself.

I love Puchi Carat but I'm not really good at it.  At least not as good as I am with Puzzle Bobble and Puzzle Fighter.  My favorite characters to play as are the Cleopatra Fortune girl and Aqua.  I thought Aqua was adorable and ditzy and cute and hilarious.

My brother Jeff loves Qix.  Taito made a bunch of updates to that one, too.  I was never very good at it.

Liquid kids was really inventive and interesting. I should probably try it again sometime.

Loony Landers was pretty neat. That's another one that sticks in my mind although I didn't make it a favorite. There was some great creativity going on there.

Space Invaders Extreme looks really cool. Wishlisted it.

Funny thing happened. I got both Bad and Good Touch weapons and went to the side of Moxxi's bar in Sanctuary, where you look out on a void, to shoot them and see what happens. After using the Bad Touch weapon, I hit the wrong button and dropped it. Of course dropping something in B2 is really like throwing it, and I had to watch as it sailed out over the edge and into the abyss. I'll never get that one back again. The Good Touch was funnier to have anyway.

Oh yea, I saw online that there are all sorts of Moxxi weapons. One's called Miss Moxxi's Slow Hand and there's a rocket launcher called Miss Moxxi's Creamer. I want this sniper rifle you can get in Ore Chasm:

Looks like I'm going to have to save up to get these weapons in Borderlands. Having these weapons vibrate is comedy!

I think the other ones do different things. It makes sense the SMG's would vibrate but Miss Moxxie's Creamer rocket launcher does something else I think. I didn't know there were Moxxi weapons scattered all over the world. You get them in all sorts of different missions.

I'm terrible at Space Invaders. I got Space Invaders Extreme a bunch of years ago and I still haven't beaten the main mode. I have got to finish it some day.

I hate being stuck on the ground in that game. Luckily Space Invaders Extreme frees you of that and lets you fly around.
