Back to School? Bah! Back to Gaming.

I've already seen a back-to-school sale advertisment and that's a sign that August is near. It seems like the holiday season has begun with all the titles coming out in August. Here are a bunch I'm considering for my preorder.

Wasteland 2 [PC] August sometime. This looks like a really deep turn-based strategy game set in some kind of future where society has collapsed. It reminds me of the Jagged Edge games. If I can get myself into PC gaming, I'd love to give this a try.

Sacred 3 [PC, PS3, X360] Aug. 5th. A Diablo-like action RPG. It looks pretty awesome.

Akiba's Trip: Undead & Undressed [Vita, PS3] Aug. 6th. Wow! This is a weird one. It's a third-person action adventure game set in famous Japanese shopping district Akihabara. Your task is to find the bloodsucking demons inhabiting human form. Then you fight them by stripping off their clothes to expose them to sunlight. Kinky.

Risen 3: Titan Lords [PC, PS3, X360] Aug 12th. I bought RIsen 2: Dark Waters day-one a few years ago and played Risen 1 as well that year. Both kicked my stupid butt, but entertained me mightily. This third game looks like more German-style piratey third-person RPG action. I'm really excited to be beaten to a bloody pulp by another difficult open world adventure. This video below was the only one I could find with actual gameplay. Most are just CG trailers. I wish I knew German because the narrator for this walkthrough of the beginning of the game sounds really funny. I just jumped around in this vid to see gameplay footage.

Diablo III: Reaper of Souls - Ultimate Evil Edition [X1, X360, PS4, PS3] Aug. 19th. I've been wanting to play Diablo III since it came out on PC two years ago. This seems like the perfect time to jump on for a console gamer like myself. The game has been fine tuned for consoles and now contains all the DLC, all for $40. I'm excited to play this co-op with a buddy of mine and check out Adventure mode where you hunt for bounties and fight in Nephalem Rift dungeons. I may pick up two copies.

Tales of Xillia 2 [PS3] Aug. 19th. I haven't played any of the Tales games yet, although I may be playing Tales of Symphonia Chronicles soon. My main interest in these kinds of RPGs is "what is the battle system like". Well, at 2:40 of this video, you get to see some it for Tales of Xillia 2 and it's pure action, which is not my first choice, but can be good. I like that it's not full of exploding effects. That kind of distraction really bothers me like the battles in Final Fantasy XII. They were too busy for me visually. I love the cell shaded look of Tales of Xillia 2 and the cinematic trailer is very dramatic and emotional.

A side note: Both Disgaea 4 and Hyperdimension Neptunia are coming to Vita in August with various improvements. I'm excited to add some more titles to my very slim Vita library at the moment. These kinds of RPGs are just what I want on a handheld device.

And those are what I'm looking at. What am I going to preorder? Diablo III: Reaper of Souls - Ultimate Evil Edition. Why? A). co-op. B). $40. C). It's frickin' Diablo and it's ultimately evil!

Reaper of Souls almost makes up for all the problems with D3. Adventure mode makes the campaign obsolete in my eyes. Way more fun and satisfying.

I can't wait to get in there and do it up like I did with Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance way back when. I gotta remember to go preorder a second copy for my friend tomorrow.

I forgot to ask my friend yesterday, who plays sports games, if he's getting Madden this year.

Yeah that Akiba game looks weird.  Let's see, there is a fat middle aged man and a hot female fitness model approaching.  Which one is the demon?  Hmmm...

Nope, nope, nope.

There is only one game in August that I'm looking forward to, and it won't come out until the end of the month.  And that's Prof. Layton vs. Phoenix Wright.  And I won't be able to play it the day it comes out (I do have it reserved so they'll hold it for me), because I'll be going out of town that weekend.  I have to take a business trip that weekend.  I'm going to Akihabara to fight demons.

(not really, I'm going to PAX)

Lucky you going to PAX. I want a report on my desk the day you get back.

I was looking forward to Prof. Layton vs. Phoenix Wright, but I'm all puzzled out for 2014. The Azran Legacy was plenty for one year.

On the big screen. Forget that Vita nonsense. Gotta strip 'em to stop 'em (I think I'm grossing myself out now).

Running around Akihabara looks cool though. I think I heard somewhere it faithfully renders all the real shops and such.

I hear you about the back to school thing. When did going back to school happen so soon! I remmeber school not happening till the end of Aug, not the middle. Even te schools in my area officially go back in mid Aug! That's just wrong, but then again I do have fun laughing at the kids as they go back. back, back to school I say! Bwahahahhaaaa!!!

The only game i'd consider would be Diablo III for PS3,. I held off on it due to it having DRM on PC's and I was afraid that might carry over onto consoles. It seems that my fears were unfounded so I'm going to see on it, after trying out the Destiny beta of course....

Sports teams go back to school in mid August, but back-to-school sales are already starting.

Thanks for reminding me. I have to go preorder a second copy of Diablo III for my friend right now. It's going to be Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance all over again. Yeehoo!

Wasteland 2 has been in PC since early this year though. Then again, you must mean the complete release because the game is in beta on Steam and you buy it while it's being developed and improved (you can even participate yourself).

Ok. Cool. I guess I do. It was listed on allgame.com as a August release.

I think the only new game I'm thinking about picking up is Madden. I'd be knee deep in NCAA if they didn't stop making them.

August is the season for Madden, isn't it.

Yup, I usually don't buy it until after the season, but since no NCAA Football, this will probably be my new football fix

I'm always tempted to get into Madden but then other stuff usually draws me away.
