Fuck Nintendo.

Hey guys! Just letting you know I'm glad I didn't haven't touched a Nintendo product since the Gamecube, and that they can go fuck themselves with a scimitar.

I saw a Wii for $38 and thought "why not? I might as well catch up on the apparently awesome games I missed from last gen." I picked up a preowned copy of Super Mario Galaxy. It was $78 dollars. Preowned. Monster Hunter Tri was similarly expensive at $58 preowned. The other games were various amounts of ridiculous, and it was the same with the 3DS. I didn't see a single 3DS game under $48 preowned...

What gives? Why are Nintendo charging so much? Who cares. They lost my business. Cunts.

Might just be the place you were at or another "lovely" example of the games industry screwing over Australia, but both of those games are under $20 here. Still sucks though.

Yeah probably. The new Civilisation in space game just got an 80% price increase because they were forced into it by publishers... fuck Australia. But everything else in the store was half price, except the Nintendo stuff.

Recently here in Canada  I've seen copies of Monster Hunter Tri with the packed in Classic Controller for 15 bucks new and Galaxy for $20.  Nintendo has nothing to do with the overcharging you are seeing. In fact SMG is a Nintendo Selects (Greatest Hits) game now so $20 is regular retail here.

I just looked on Amazon and you can get Monster Hunter Tri for less than 9 bucks used.

If you're talking about used games, your blame is misplaced. Nintendo doesn't set the prices of used games/systems, and they don't make a dime from them. Used games sell at what the market will bear, and Nintendo's games command a premium price on the used market.

Nintendo were the only ones who were priced so high, and there games come out at $120 as new releases. So yeah, they can eat a dick.

Where the fuck do you live? Do you have ebay or amazon? Actually, Nintendo games never really go on sale the same way PS3 or Xbox games do after 6 months.

Yeah I have them. It was just disheartening that one game cost over double what the console cost, and the game was used.

Wow, cant believe it cost that much where ya live. The only thing used Nintendo wise that gets pricey is normally the hard to find games where im at. Thats insane O_O

Yeah. Stupid Australia. Nintendo is the worst for it, because their games are 30-40 bucks more expensive when released anyway. Nintendo just hates Australians I swear.

As others have said, I don't think this really has much to do with Nintendo's business practices. Having said that, I still think Amazon's used copies of Super Mario Sunshine are too pricey at over $20, but here I am wanting that game and unable to find it physically, so .... and the new copies over $100? Who is buying those?

Blake Turner Staff Writer

Well we don't have a choice. We used to have sites like OZGamer that sold them cheaper but they were pressured by publishers to raise their prices.

Oh ... so then maybe Nintendo does have to do with it if they're pressuring resellers. Didn't know any of that. No idea then.

IIt's not just Nintendo. 2K recently did the same thing when they forced Steam to mark up Civilization: Beyond Earth by 80%

Nintendo's games don't drop in price like the others.  I've been waiting for a lot of Nintendo's games to drop below $30.  Games that have been out over a decade.  The price of the games you saw are way worse than the prices I see.

Yep. It made me rethink my decisions and decide definitely not to get a Wii-U either.

No. You go fuck yourself. If the games are preowned then complain about the store (brand).

Blake Turner Staff Writer

It's every store in Australia. Nintendo artificially increase their prices for new games to like 120 bucks, so the preowned copies aren't as cheap. They also don't drop in price. They're like Activision, their games stay ridiculously expensive forever.

Don't you have friends or people you know (neighbours) that have Nintendo games? There's no trading club in Australia? I mean anything at all?

Heck you can even emulate Wii games if your PC can run such emulators, or install the homebrew channel.

Disclosure: I mentioned the emulation/homebrew thing, but I don't like that people pirate games. You're willing to buy them to begin with, and you live in a country that most likely has some retarded regulations in regards to video games. I lived in Portugal and it was exactly so, and probably still is. Retailers would charge an arm and leg for each game.

Smile That was the right kind of sass to start the morning off here, the first sentence especially was pretty excellent.

That's not really fair on my part, I don't mean to laugh at your situation. Jokes aside I think it's ridiculous how high those prices are. Nintendo have some great games but none of them are worth that much to me. Over here prices don't depreciate much at all but we still have much lower starting prices than what you're forced to deal with. Those prices you're seeing are kinda nuts.

78 bucks for SMG?  WTF??!!!?

I had no idea stuff was more pricey in Australia.  I'd never afford it.

Yeah. This is THE MAIN REASON I game on PC. New games are $100 each, whereas on steam I can get American prices and discounts.

Wheter or not it's the fault of Nintendo or the brands that sell the games, sucks to hear that.

Having said that though, we have far less luck in Colombia, because unless you are very rich or have a good economic income, games on EVERY console (except some on PC) are expesive, not mather the brand, due to the costs of importing and translation to Pesos, which is why about 99% of people go for piracy.

Damn dude... that's rough.

GeminiMan78

08/29/2014 at 09:16 PM

That is steep, but I have noticed that even here in the states that Nintendo's core title games almost never go down in price. A new copy of Mariocart DS still cost $35, and the used copy will be $29. That game is old as shit. And its the same with Smash Bros for the Wii. I have wanted to repurchase Wind Waker for the Cube and the used game shop has like 6 copies at $45 a pop. Its just crazy.

Blake Turner Staff Writer

Yeah, it seems to be Nintendo games and Activision games... they NEVER go down in price. It's bloody ridiculous that Deadpool is still $60!

GeminiMan78

09/03/2014 at 08:09 AM

It is a fun game but your right, its not worth $60.

Especially when Mario Kart 7 is less expensive than Mario Kart DS.  What hell is wrong with that picture?

GeminiMan78

Wow, that's crazy. I had not priced MK7 cause I don't have a 3DS.

Yea, prices don't move for Nintendo games like everything else. Pikmin 3 is still $55 used at Gamestop. It's been out a year now. Most games are $20 after a year except for stuff like GTA. I had to play $50 for GTA 5.

Nintendo does have that Selects series though that are $20 I believe in U.S.. Australia it goes for $50. I feel for ya. So much ocean to cross.

Sorry your region dicks customers,Blake. Frown I agree those prices are pretty gonzo.

Blake Turner Staff Writer

It's a small price to pay for free health care and schools that don't have shootings every week I guess.

Wait how much?! I'm sorry but that is freaking insane that game stores in Australia will sell games at that price. I don't blame you with sticking to PC especially when the games are $4-5 bucks.
