Boom, boom, boom, boom.

I really played a lot of EDF 2025 today as the Air Raider. My friend Mark and I played co-op from where we left off yesterday to about level 30 on Hard before we started getting stuck on certain levels. For some reason the difficulty spikes a little bit after level 25 or so. I was under armored and lacking in really effective weapons anyway, so we returned to the beginning and started running through all the levels on Hardest difficulty basically to farm for weapons and armor.

While my Ranger friend got to use his higher level weapons with the higher weapon level cap at Hardest difficulty, I got to experiment with vehicles and support weapons.

There's an armored vehicle that is basically an ambulance - get in and it heals you up.

I tried a motorcycle but it handled horribly and seemed kind of pointless.

There are various tanks, one of which shoots out a kind of bug spray. I used several with normal turrets and one with a rail gun, but I really liked the missile launcher truck more. The thing is slow however. I think I was moving faster on foot using dive rolls. Can't beat it for putting missiles in the air though.

There are helicopters which handle horribly. Possibly higher level ones down the road will perform better, but the ones I tried took forever to lift off the ground and then handled like giant tractor trailers of the sky. Memories of that game Lair - dear god no.

Then there are mechs which became my goto vehicles. They are pretty slow, but have some terrific firepower and armor. I would pair this with a canister that you can place on the ground to create a zone of various effects like: health regen, defense or attack boost, or other aids to specific classes. Then I'd just sit there in my Mech and light the place up.

Get up buddy, time to roll out.

For my constant companion, I used various types of Limpet Mine guns. These all shoot sticky mines that you set off whenever you want. These guns work great when I've been knocked out of my vehicle and have to wait for it to be ready for use again. You have to be careful not to stick friendlies with them though. One time I stuck a civilian with several and they stuck out of his head like a red glowy hat. I had a chuckle over that as he ran past me in terror and then I had to blow him up. What else could I do? He was doomed.

My favorite Limpet Mine guns where the ones that have shrapnel. I used them in underground areas. Stick the mines, light them up, and watch shrapnel fly everywhere. Pretty!

Then there are the air strikes which make a terrific mess but are very slow to reload. I used them on a beach level with hoards of ants that I could see approaching from a long distance. It was really fun to watch all the bug parts go flying in every conceivable direction. I found it hard to aim the darn thing. You just throw a smoke grenade out there for the strike team to hit, but you can't see exactly where on the ground it will land. Somehow I managed it though.

Finally there are emplacements that either give you an energy shield or act like fixed turrets that shoot whenever a target is near. I used these a little bit just to see how they worked, but it was more fun to jump in vehicles and setup protective zones.

This game is still terrific fun even though Mark and I yelled at each other, in fun, over friendly fire. It's hard to keep track of where friendlies are when your surrounded by red ants trying to chew you to death.

This one is seriously the best I've played of the series so far. There are so many insects on the screen at once, it's crazy. I've heard there's some slow down on the PS3 version, but I've come across very little of that so far in this Xbox 360 one. I did hear it was being put out on Xbox One and PS4 with some added stuff too.

I guess it could be described as Dynasty Warriors with guns I suppose. There's quite a bit of diversity of weapons and equipment across the four classes you can play as, and their effects are explotacular. . . I just made that word up.
