I haven't done one of these in forever! Oh, wait, I didn't blog at all for, what, six months? Something like that, anyway. Sooo....here's what I've been up to:

Weekend: It was busy. Friday night Jason and I caught up on The Amazing Race and he made me enchiladas for dinner. Saturday, I'd planned on making an apple crisp for the party I was going to that evening. And then the power went off about 1:00 PM. And stayed off, all freaking day. No electricity means no cooking, no running water, no internet, no video games. I took the dog for a ramble in the woods and then read until it was time to go to the party. It was a nice party, plenty of food and beverage, one of the hosts brews his own beer and it was a very nice red ale. We had brats on the grill, and a fire in the fire place on the deck. Sunday, Jason and I went to his parents' to watch the game, since I can't pull Fox in decently with my antenna. And a great game it was - loved the three TDs in 57 seconds. Now if only I'd remembered to set my fantasy lineup to include Gronkowski... Oh, well. I have been a crappy manager for my fantasy team all season so far, why stop now? We had pulled pork and pulled chicken sandwiches and a homemade pie for dessert.

Reading: It's October and an irrational desire to reread The Lord of the Rings always hits. Saturday, I started The Fellowship of the Ring while the power was out. I also just read an interesting little article about little known facts about JRR Tolkein. Most of them I already knew, but some were new. Regardless of how you feel about the books, take a few minutes to read about the author, he was a pretty fascinating guy. I gained a whole new appreciation for his fiction when I did my specialty in college in medieval literature.

Watching: I've caught up to the present on Supernatural. Also got hooked on The Originals somehow. Watched an episode or two of Gotham and not feeling the love, but The Flash has possibilities. On Season 5 of The Shield, that is one well-written, well-acted show. Already mentioned The Amazing Race - I like the bike messenger girls and the adorable gay couple, hate the dentists. And of course, Agents of SHIELD.

Playing: Still playing Sleeping Dogs and South Park: Stick of Truth. I'd love to pick up Costume Quest 2, but money is a bit of an issue at the moment, so I'll just have to wait.

And that's my life in a nutshell lately.

Tolkien sounds like an intriguing guy.

I got the urge to reread The Lord of The Rings a while back, even going as far as buying new copies of the books to replace the ones I lost. I just need to finish up all the other books I have to read and I'll get started.

With you on not feeling Gotham.

I got 50 pages into The Fellowship of the Ring and my attention wandered and I'm reading a book off my huge backlog of books instead.

Reading about Tolkein got me thinking about the word "philologist" and what that means. His love of creating imaginary languages explains a lot too. But for some reason though, I have no interest in rereading any LotR stuff. I mean, I did reread the Hobbit when the first movie was announced and LotR at the beginning of that movie series too; so I guess I've already done my homework and am ready for the exam.

The Lord of the Rings is one of those cherished childhood things. I think I read it for the first time when I was nine, and I used to amuse myself by memorizing the poems in it on the car ride home from my gramma's after my mom got out of work. It's a nostalgia thing.

I was following the Christopher Tolkien books. I read Children of Hurin. That was a good one.

I just got a review code for Costume Quest 2 on PS3.  Unfortunately, I don't think I'll have the review up by Halloween in 2 days.  Glad to get the opportunity to play it, though, as I never played the first one.

I can't believe you never played the first one, it's so up your alley!

No electricity is the worst.  Here in Louisiana, no electricity in the summer means no air conditioning, and it becomes pretty much unbearable.  You don't even think about games or anything else when you're covered in sweat.  We still get running water though, but what's the point in showering when you're just going to sweat again lol?

I'm on a well, so no power means no pump, and no pump means no water. The park I work at is also on a well, so the first thing we do when we realize the power's gone out is run down and lock up the bathroom building and hope not too many people have used it in the time it's taken between when the electricity went out and when you lock it.

Pick up Sleeping Dogs (360), South Park: Stick of Truth (360), and a few other games a couple days ago.  I hadn't got to any of them yet.  I've been playing Dragon Age 2.

I hear good things about The Flash and Green Arrow. I need to check those out. Love SHIELD, and I'm neutral on Gotham. Hopefully something pulls me in because I do like the Batman Universe.

You keep writing about Sleeping Dogs the way KnightDriver writes about Earth Defense Force, and I'll probably jump back into the game and give it another try. I really should try and finish it.

That party sounds like a lot of fun, good food, good people, good times!

I need to get back to Sleeping Dogs. The problem I have is that I get sucked in and the next thing I know, it's almost dawn. And I say that like it's a bad thing...

I'd like ro reread LOTR.  It's been like fifteen years.

You didn't get hit with that sudden cold snap that's currently getting some of the New England area sound of you are te?

I've yet to see the current Hobbit movies out at the moment but I keep hearing good things about this "Shadows of Mordor" game. I may not get into reading of JRR just yet but the games are slowly starting to intruge.

I'm with you on Costume Quest 2, though money wasn't somewhat of an issue I just couldn't bring myself to spend $15 on a 6 hour game no matter how much I loved the first one.

We did that that brief cold snap, but it didn't last long. Long enough for me break down and turn on the heat, though.
