Crossing the Chesapeake

On Saturday I crossed the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel on the way to North Carolina for a week's vacation. It's always neat to film it or stop at the rest stop and take pictures of passing freight, or sometimes military, ships. We didn't stop this time, but I filmed the crossing. It usually takes over 20 minutes to cross the Chesapeake, but I cut the video down to 3 minutes of highlights. There are ten such bridge-tunnels in the world. How many are in video games, I wonder?

There are two tunnels and four high level bridges. It's 23 miles long.

A day later, I'm watching the Eagles destroy the Titans. It's 40-17 with 9 minutes to go. Yawn. We're ready for you Cowboys on Thanksgiving.

The hell you are ready for us, playing the crappy Titans while we get a division rival before Thursday. Giants may be 3-7, but Vikings are 4-7 and just kept the Packers within 3. Division rivalries will do that. But then we get home field advantage, so can't use that as an excuse really as it washes out somewhat.

Hoping it's at least a good game on Thanksgiving and if not, looking forward to the rematch. I'm also looking forward to the match between Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady next Sunday. Now that'll be good!

Way I see it, we're both playing on a short week, so no excuses on Thursday. It's even steven. May the best team win.

I agree it is even, especially since we have home field advantage, but a desperate division rival is something we unfortunately have to take seriously. Which is why I'm hoping we at the very least keep this Thanksgiving game close, but am beginning to think the rematch may wind up being a better game. Then again, maybe not, cause Dez and Murray had a field day against the Giants last time. If that happens again, I'll expect a better game Thursday.

Either way, whoever wins T-day will deserve to.

Lol. Either way it's the Cowboys fault if the Giants manage to shake them up and Phili will deserve the win Thursday if they get it (which I obviously hope they don't). I'm hoping that doesn't happen, so there'll be the great game I've been expecting this Thursday. Then again, maybe a loss to the Giants will piss the Cowboys off and they'll play better? Hoping this anything-can-happen part of the season plays in our favor. I'll be watching tonight in my office while I do some homework.

i have certainly crossed that bay many a time.  Don't think I'll be doing it anytime soon again though.

It's neat looking at it on the GPS. There's just this line surrounded by blue and the arrow for the car in the middle.

I've never been through that tunnel (never been to North Carolina, for that matter), but I went sailing on the bay itself in 1988 through the Annapolis Sailing School.

I like sailing. Haven't done it in years though.

That sounds like it should be a fiddle tune, somehow.

For sure.

I need to travel that bridge one day. Sadly my travels never took me that far sound from the accursed new england area. Perhaps one day when I feel adventures and I need to get away from the police for awhile.

I always love to stop at the rest stop about 2/3rds the way across and look for any big ships. I wasn't driving this time, so I didn't get to do it. But I did see two enormous cargo ships from the car, one was named the Yang Ming. Unfortuneatly they were only clearly visible from behind the car after we passed them because we'd just come out of a tunnel and the sun was in front of us. Otherwise I would have wanted to capture them on the video.

Wow 23 miles of tunnels and high bridges, yeah that's not a drive I would like to do. Its nice to see what this looks like because Tony Kornheiser (Pardon the Interruption) on his podcast talked about this drive.

They say there are 4 high bridges, but mostly I just noticed one and then the rest was just above sea level, and then the 2 tunnels. I've been on much shorter bridges that were much higher and therefore more scary to drive.
