Sunday was Game Day

And I guess I had to watch football too. Funny thing about that. I was playing Angry Birds Star Wars while watching The Birds (Eagles) lose to the Cowboys. For a while there, we were in perfect sinc: I would clear a level, and the Eagles would make a great play. Then . . . not so much. Ah well, it was fun anyway.

However, the day started with some Ticket to Ride on XBLA with my friend Mad Krammer. I lost consistently but it was fun anyway. Basically the way to win is to build a very long train line from coast to coast and then fill in with a few shorter ones later. This gets boring, so I like to make all sorts of crazy rail lines that connect in interesting ways. Doing this usually ends up with me losing the game however. But what is winning anyway? From my perspective, I won every time because I had fun. So take that competitive gameplay! Go suck an egg!

Don't get close guys, or I might have to take my knife out. Um, why can't I move now.

Then I attempted to play more Resident Evil 4 HD on Xbox live. I honestly could not put up with the controls in this game. Your ability to look around while aiming at a target is severly limited like you have on some giant helmet that impedes your ability to turn your head. Still, I managed to shoot up some sick zombie-like crazed people: I disarmed some, got some headshots (exploding watermellons anyone?), and knocked some off ledges. Inevitablly some would get in close, and I'd have to switch to my melee weapon, but I couldn't seem to move forward while holding the knife. I had to lower my guard, move forward, and bring the knife up again to strike. What a strange and unexciting way to handle melee fighting. Anyway, after a while of this, and getting wacked by zombies with longer melee weapons than me, I threw up my hands. I honestly don't understand why they didn't learn anything from the many third-person shooters that by 2005, had much better controls than this.

Gotta be aware of the gravity fields and the ricochet of blaster fire on the metal shielding.

It wasn't next on my list, but because I only had my 360 at my friend's place, I had to play the next 360 game on my list, and that was Angry Birds: Star Wars. I wasn't attracted to Angry Birds at first, but as soon as Angry Birds Space came out, I got interested. Here the space theme is added to Star Wars to make a winning combo. I love the levels where you have to deal with gravity around one or more objects. It's just neat to see physics in action.

The game features all the major areas of Star Wars Episodes 1-3. I played through desert planet Tatooine, the Death Star, and most of the ice planet Hoth levels all day and even during the Eagles/Dallas game. The levels get trickier later in the game, being more like complex puzzles that take some thought to complete than casual wreck-em-ups. There's plenty of replay value also since you can play each level for score and for collectibles. Once I play the whole game, I'll go back and try and get three stars on each level.

            ho

Tomorrow my friend Mad Krammer says there will be the new DLC for Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel. I dont' know though because it says the 16th on several websites I've looked at. I'll bring over my original Xbox just in case, because I want to play Phoenix on Taito Legends and Sid Meier's Pirates. If I blast through those, I'll go back to Angry Birds Star Wars. There'll be pizza tomorrow! Looking forward to that!

I gotta get back into  RE;4.I have it on Steam, but I somewhat agree about the controls. To me, they're more annoying than they are tense at times, but oh well. The sound design has definitely gotten to me at times, so if I give it a chance, I'm hoping I'll experience the greatness it's hyped to be.

And I'm glad the real Cowboys showed up and not zombie O-line and no-back-injection-old-man Romo. Kudos to your team for keeping it interesting after a 21-0 start. I think I lost a few calories from both pacing and fist-pumping during that game. lol

I want to finish it, I really do, but those controls just bug me.

That Cowboy's reciever had a field day on us. The Eagle covering him was a clear mismatch. I swear the Cowboy's receiver was a foot taller and outran him every time.

I hear you.

And to be honest, Dez is a mismatch for a lot of cornerbacks. The guy blocks as well as he catches cause of his size. But yeah, Chip Kelly or whoever the DC is in Phili made a mistake by keeping the same guy on him. He's also an emotional player, so I imagine whoever it was that threw eggs at the Dallas team bus didn't help the Eagles any by pissing him off. lol

Ha ha! I hadn't heard about the "egg incident". I thought it was funny how the fans practically booed the Eagles off the first [field] at the beginning and then went crazy when they came back and even followed Sanchez's requests for quite [quiet] later in the game. That's the Philly fans for you, passionate and irrational.

OMG, getting to that video was taking way too long. Do these "official" websites really think I'm going to wait while their ad filled site loads and then watch another ad before the video I want to watch? No way! Nothing's worth that.

Thanks for the link anyway. I saw the still photo of the egg on the bus. Funny and totally unsportsmanlike. But then again, pro sports players and managers are always trying to cheat the rules anyway they can. Where is true sportsmanlike conduct? I say it doesn't exist except on the little league field.

A lot of the players mic'd up will actually be pretty respectful of one another after the game. I think it's because they know they could always get traded.

Sorry about the link, it wasn't doing that to me earlier. Would have been easier to just give you the nfl.com link I guess. Oh well.

Resident Evil's controls were always awkward.

RE 5 and 6 aren't much better either. I just can't get used to it.

dammit man, you're the reason the eagles lost!  If only you had played ANgry Birds with more finesse!

Yeah I never got on the RE4 hype train either.  I never liked it from the first level, and I was always surprised people loved it so much.  Give me RE2 any day of the week.

Well, I was consistently pretty good, whereas the Eagles were all over the place. If they can't feel my mental bird bond, then they gotta do psychic exercises double this week.

I want to give the earlier RE's a shot sometime.

ha ha, yeah the Eagles were definitely inconsistent. defense sucked.

Even though I've played through RE4 so many times and like the game a lot, I agree the controls are a little akward. Though I figure it's a design choice since if you were able to better move, it'd be way too easy to take the enemies out.

I just gotta figure out the close combat stuff. I'm not doing it right I'm sure.

i agree with the controls of re4. from what i understand, the controls are meant to add to the tension in the game....but ultimately they only serve to piss me off

Tension does increase when your hands seem tied together while a hoard of zombie-like sickos are coming at you with garden rakes. I hate being in that situation.

I think I bought that train game in a Humble Bundle awhile back because the concept was interesting. Since I am without an Android device right now, I can't play it.

The gravity levels in Angry Birds are fun trying to use the different gravitational pulls. Those are levels that are replayed a bunch.

I want to get the Ticket to Ride board game now. My friend Mark and I go back to it often for a few rounds on Xbox 360.

It's so cool trying to discover just the right angle to shoot your bird to make it orbit and effect things in different gravity fields. I noticed lagrangian points in some levels too. COOL!

I wanna get RE4 HD so bad but I'm waiting for it to go on sale (again) on PSN since I play to make that my RE survival horror machine. Jus tdepending if I should get 5 and 6 since their base titles are really cheap.

I paid $20 for the Xbox Live version, but then it went on sale a few weeks ago. I guess I wish I'd waited, but you can't predict these things.
