Xenoblade X News Makes Me Less Interested

I just read the information posted on operation rainfalls site and it's made me more doubtful about wanting to buy a Wii U for it. It sounds like they are turning it into some sort of open world game with an action battle system and possibly an MMO. *shudder*

There was nothing wrong with the first game. Why fix what wasn't broken. Sure tweaks and innovations are nice but it seems like "hey kids, you all loved Xenoblade Chronicles so much here's something that's nothing like it."

I may not be selling a kidney after all. Which is good because I'm not sure mine are in great shape right now (plus the legal thing).

I'll await the finished product but I have a feeling that Mr. Ranger isn't going to like this Yogi.

Sorry to hear that Pete. It seems like a lot of series are doing the whole open world thing nowadays. I never got to play the original unfortunately. My brother had it, but he got rid of his Wii.

The original was probably my favourite RPG of last gen. Beating out Lost Odyssey which is saying something for me because I loved the shit out of that game too.

It looked like an open-world MMO in the Nintendo Direct a couple months back too.

I didn't watch the Direct. I have seen video of it and thought it looked pretty nice but it's sounding more and more like not my kind of RPG. Open World translates into I lost the main story line 40 hours ago when I wandered off after something shiny and have NFI what to do next.

I do love the way it looks though. So conflicted.

Sounds good to me.

I'm sure a lot of people will enjoy it but I prefer to play as a set character, follow a story line and have the story end then move on. It's not out yet so I could be just reading too much into it. At least they haven't announced a monthly sub for it.

Honestly, I have no clue where you're getting MMO or monthly sub from. They said online is "loosely connected," that just sounds like they're doing something similar to Dark Souls with it. I don't think that phrase fits any MMO ever made and if that's the direction they were going, they'd be touting that as something new and different rather than the new world, gameplay features, and story which is what they have been touting.

Not like the original is going anywhere either, they're just taking the new one in a different direction while trying to keep it close to the orignal. Isn't that the point of a sequel?

Like I said, it's not out yet and I could be reading too much into nothing. The monthly sub thing was just a joke. :P

I think they're doing something similar with Dragon Quest X.  I don't understand what makes these people think turning a single player rpg into a MMO is a good idea. Undecided

Oh gawd, I didn't need this before bed.

I'm wholy worried, i'm sure it'll be a well polished piece but I'm not an mmo fan and hanging from the FF12 style to that is not going to be my cup of tea. I'll probably buy it out of faith but then again I have been burned before... It's not easy :(

It may be nothing like an MMO and possibly like Casey said loosely connected means something like a Dark Souls get someone in to help you when you need to.

We'll see when it finally drops. I'm just being pessimistic. Jaded and all that. :)

But the first game was open world. I went off the rails early on and just explored and fought all the things. It was mmo-like already. It was also an action game. Did you play the first game? It wasn't turned based. It played like kingdom hearts.

I thought the first one was actiony and MMOy by what I saw of it too.

Yep I put 120 hours into the first one. Never wanted it to end. It was the statement about it being more action oriented less linear and less like a traditional RPG in the announcement I linked that got me thinking the worst.

There are lots of other reasons to get a Wii U, though.  I never was interested in Xenoblade anyway.  There's a new Kirby game coming out in February on the Wii U!  You KNOW you want that. :)

Only if it's a Kirby MMO. LOL

That's the only way you could get me to play an MMO is if you put Kirby in it.  Does Animal Crossing count as an MMO?

LOL AC's multiplayer is not that massive. If your could have hundreds of people running around other peoples towns causing havoc then maybe.

At this point only a Zelda or Metroid title would get me to drop money on a WiiU. iI really liked Xenoblade even though I only got about 15 hours into it (need to get back on it). I saw a video for this new one and it looked like GTA with aliens and swords. I agree, if its not broken don't fix it.

I dunno. There were things in the announcement that made me think the worst but we'll have to wait and see.

Ayyyye, Boo-Boo! Can I get another Picnic Basket??

I played the original Xenoblade and it was good, not great.  For me, this XC won't sell the Wii U.

Thanks for the heads up though.

Well I loved the first game. Even after putting 120 hours into it I'd play it again and figured that this game was the game that would make me need a Wii U. Now I'm a little unsure but it's still not a real product yet so I'll wait and see.

I'd only have a problem with this if this mode was the only way to play, as in if you don't have an internet connection then you can't play it period. Hopefully they'll give you the option to play it as a stand alone RPG with no online components or otherwise.

PErsonally I wondered why the original didn't get this on the Wii. When I play it I feel intimitaged and thing this would work as a close encounter mmo like how you could just run into someone in the game Journey on PSN.
