Today, I'm going to go all Was not was on your backsides.

Yes folks, Anything Can Happen and that just happens to be the name of the first track. Please be advised that Was not was tracks (other than covers) are extremely tongue in cheek and are not meant to be taken seriously. The first couple of lines from this track says it all

"She took me to the bedroom to show me her computer, she asked me if I liked it, I told her she was cuter. She wasn't that great, but it was gettin' kinda late....."

Poppa Was a Rollin' Stone. It's a cover but it's a good one. A little distorted in parts but it's the best recording I could find. I love the rap in this because it really is part of the story.

Spy in the House of Love Pump it up, until you can feel it. :)

Somewhere in America There's a Street Named After My Dad.

This next track is a live rendition of a truly beautiful track. Just when you think they are just too silly they do this to you. It is followed by Robot Girl which is not quite as serious. Please listen.

Hello Dad, I'm in Jail.

Ok, we need something lighter now so I'll end this with the kind of weird shit they put on all their records.

They do an absolutely killer live version of Can't Turn You Loose. I couldn't find a postable vid though.

I have always loved Don Was and the gang. Such versatile musicians and two of the best vocalists in Sweet Pea and Harry.

I was not aware of was not was, and now I was! Were I to thank you, I'd say I were to thank you! Laughing Lyrics in that first line remind me of "I love my Computer" by Bad Religon, nice piano

Papa Was a Rolling Stone is funky; I got my groove and and now I have back issues! In parts, it sounds like Carlton from Fresh Prince is rapping, so I imagined him doing the Carlton while I listened.

I can feel it, brotha! I'm watching Skyfall with my family right now (turns out senior citizens need to watch something three times to see all of it), so I dig what you're playin down, brick layer!

First part had smooth voice, second had smooth sax. Bleeding Gums Murphy is proud!

"Hello dad, I'm in Jail" is where rappers got the idea to make spoken word tracks isn't it? Not a fan. Foot in Mouth I'd visit jail for vacation, not sure I'd wanna live there.

Great tracks and artist!

Yeah I love the band because they can't be pigeon holed. Just when you think you know what they do they do something completely different.

Sweet Pea's voice on that live version of Street named after my dad is so good.

Listened to "Street Named After My Dad" in full today (yesterday I kinda skimmed that one cause it was longer and I was tipsy), my opinion is pretty much the same though, love the smooth voice; and smooth sax in "Robot Girl." Really enjoyed "Street," relaxing and sure it means a lot to the singer.

That song just gets to me. Sweet Pea Atkinson is a brilliant vocalist and the lyrics work so well.

At night only crickets
No prowlers, no sirens
No pinky ring hustlers
No angel dust Byrons
No bars on the windows
No sabre-tooth neighbors
Just good simple folks
In a rainbow of flavors

It's the real American no Universal dream. Somewhere in America, there's a street named after my dad, and the home we never had.

Papa Was A Rolling Stone! Love that one, what a classic song. I was only familiar with a few of their songs. Never realized how versatile they are. Great music!

Thanks, I love these guys because despite the sillyness on the surface they have something to say and are also great musicians,

Thanks, one of the things I love to do is share music. In the past I always enjoyed having people over so that I could share my love of music with them. It doesn't really happen anymore.

Hey Ben, While I can always appreciate a bit of fun in music I love lyrics that have an honesty to them. That's what I get from this band. A whole heap of honesty inside a sometimes silly and sarcastic view.
