Episode 39: The Mushy Stuff

Posted on 02/12/2014 at 03:42 AM | Filed Under Feature

I wholeheartedly agree about Metroidvania needing to be called adventure-exploration instead.

I remember Hercules and Tarzan, but not Pinocchio from my Kingdom Hearts rental years back, or were you talking about 1.5? I'm playing Ghost Trick as I listen, so I may be mistaken.

A lot of the inconsistencies talked about here regarding The Hobbit may have come from the fact Jackson pulled from the Simarillion and added parts from it in there. However, The Hobbit is the only Tolkien book I ever read in full though, so I have no idea. I do know he took from Simarillion and that accounts for a lot of the changes.

As for Katniss in Hunger Games, she actually did not like Peeta back in the first one; I guess that didn't come through as well in the movie, but it was all an act for the cameras. I'll agree that the second flick was way better for camera stillness alone, though I actually wish they had made the murders as brutal as in the book as opposed to feeling physically ill, but my ranking of books would go Mockingjay, then Hunger Games, then Catching Fire, which I found painfully predictable as a book, but works better as a movie.

I'll listen to the rest after this comment, since you had a song break here.

Halo: Mortal Dictata Review

Similar question: I'm completely unfamiliar with the Halo universe storyline. Where should I start and go as far as reading material?

I wonder if KnightDriver has seen this review, he was reading this book.

Shopping for Tech (BaD #07)

Million Dollar Baby is sad. As for tech, I wish I had a good video camera. Just don't use your bluetooth in public restrooms, that still confuses me while urinating.

Hope you get the XBOX fixed. Nice beard.

BaD Ep 12: Captain N's favorite Super Hero shows

Posted on 02/12/2014 at 01:51 AM | Filed Under Blogs

Well, you only had five minutes to read my blog before midnight, so I can see why people missed it so far. lol Thanks for the shout out once again!

My favorite super hero show, if it could count, would have to be Avatar The Last Airbender, which I only watched well after the movie came out, cause that's the only reason I knew it existed. Thank God it was so much better than the movie.

I've enjoyed what I've seen of 60s Batman for the goofiness.

I actually still like 90s Spider-Man, including the CGI, from what I watched somewhat recently on Netflix. I will say Spidey's internal monologue is way too heavily featured, but I otherwise still really like the story, characters, animation and action. Never seen 60s Spidey, just know the opening theme from having the Spider-Man movie OST ... which I can't find. Aerosmith covered that theme on there, too.

I never really watched Freakazoid much, but I loved Animaniacs.

I'm about where you are on Tick, I liked it and the video game, but don't remember much about it; same with Earthworm Jim's cartoon and game.

My brother was into the 90s X-Men more than I was (I found it a bit too much like a soap opera and therefore a bit dull as a kid), but I have seen some of the newer cartoon, and it seems good.

I have The Arrow in my Netflix cue ... I'm actually very glad it's not a Batman show, cause I'm honestly a bit tired of Batman saturating pop culture so heavily. Don't get me wrong, I love Batman, but I'm glad a lesser known character got a good show.

I'm actually more bothered by the CGI in Prime than I am by the 90s Spidey CGI, which I actually kinda like. I don't know why, but it's true.

I've heard lots of good things about Brave and the Bold, I'll have to check it out. As for Batman Beyond, I watched a few episodes on Saturday mornings when it first ran. I liked it, but didn't think it was spectacular. My friend Austin watches it all the time on Netflix, though.

As for TAS, I really loved the darkness of it and the second Burton film as a kid. I loved reading Edgar Allen Poe as well. I just was drawn to dark or eerie seeming things for some reason. On a related note, I really liked Eerie Indiana and Goosebumps.

Wishlist: 10 for 2014....and BeyonD, Pt.2

I don't enjoy RPGs much, so I don't think I'll play this, but it's cool to think what it might solidify for crowd-funded games.

I agree with your comment about Fallout's combat, even though I only ever played the third installment at a friend's for a short time. I thought the whole aiming for a body part thing slowed things down way too much and bored me to tears. That may not have been the flaw you meant to allude to, but it brought to my memory what I didn't like about the combat, personally.

It's so ... BaD! (Strong, Hate-Filled Language)

Haven't seen them yet. I may start streaming it from NBC's website, but I feel cheated, having just bought a TV.

Bad #7 Pokemon Master #1

Posted on 02/12/2014 at 01:21 AM | Filed Under Blogs

I actually saved in an inconvenient place in Blue as a kid that a strategy guide I was using more or less told me I fucked myself doing and could not beat the game (at least how I read it). I had worked to get to that point for a long time, so I actually got pretty upset (not Tosh.O World of Warcraft remote up his butt upset, but pretty damn upset) and I quit the game. Now, I can't find my copy anywhere in my parents' house, at least last time I was there, and I really want to beat it. If I can't find it or my Game Boy Color (there is a Gameboy original there, but its batteries looked like Grimer, and my older brother may have taken it anyway, since I think it was his), I may just buy FireRed on GBA, which I just learned existed since Game Grumps are playing it.

Congrats on Pearl! Hopefully, I'll finish the one Pokemon game I ever truly started as more than a rental (rented Yellow once, don't count the addictive Pinball, which I own).

BaD 8: Treadmills - The Lurking Terror

Posted on 02/12/2014 at 01:12 AM | Filed Under Blogs

I'm glad your son's ok, that's scary for a parent, as you said. Forgot to mention in my blog a guy fell of the treadmill next to mine in the gym after he stopped it. To be fair, he was going pretty fast, and I didn't laugh, cause he was a bigger guy, but I wanted to. lol

I see that Retro City Rampage is on Steam. I'll add it to my wishlist. Wasn't expecting the Epic Meal Time bit in the trailer I just watched ..the fake cereal commercial that just auto-played is great.

As for thoughts, I have noticed that when I got to my blog drafts, there are about a billion dummy entries that say "[DRAFT]." Honestly, this is something I don't care much about from a purely personal perspective, since I copy my blogs before posting or have them in a Word doc, but I wonder if all those dummy drafts are the symptom or cause of some other problem? Anyway, to the forums I go.

That was a great video and I am better for having watched it. So you're telling me the guy responsible for some of the best games/mechanics of my childhood (Tony Hawk) and teenage years (Spidey 2) is so passionate about a project that combines elements of those two series/games (especially the "realistic" swinging) that he only set his Kickstarter goal at $1? Tell me he can still take my money!
