AFK: Never mind, we're back in business!

Posted on 12/23/2013 at 12:28 AM | Filed Under Blogs

Sorry about the work and 360 issues. I hate that Google linked all my accounts as well. It's not really all that convenient to me, and just means that I sometimes have trouble if I want to sign into someone else's GMAIL account for them to send them something. It sometimes won't let you change what user you want to sign in as.

I never knew about MST3K until well after it aired, but I actually tend to like the blip reviewers who were inspired by it more than the show itself. I would like to own some Rifftrax at some point, though.

I share your pain with the too-many drafts thing. It'll probably happen with my blog idea for tomorrow and be delayed. Oh well.

I never really cared much for RWBY past the action trailers, to be honest, but I did like the art style. Sorry to hear it ended poorly. If it makes you feel any better, the second season of Legend of Korra was a bit weak for me by the Avatar series' standards.

PS4 vs XBONE is, possibly, the console war I've been least interested in. Even though I never wound up owning a Wii, I always rooted for Nintendo to win, which they arguably did last gen, I suppose. But my Nintendo fanboyness died down significantly after Gamecube's time, and I can see the company's flaws now that the rose-tinted glasses are off. I feel like I was really interested in the debate about digital gaming and the sometimes oppositional desires of gamers and publishers when PS4/XBO were first announced. Now that the systems are out, I'm just thinking, "eh." Which is honestly how I felt about 360/PS3 when I first saw their launch games, and realized they weren't that much better than the previous generation's.

I would LOVE a PS4, but not until it gets to the point the developers really know what they're doing with it. XBONE isn't a definite no for me, either, but it would have to prove to be definitively better than PS4 in order for me to buy it. That is, if I ever buy these consoles at all. It's probably not happening soon, and I'm pretty content with my recent installation of Steam and its holiday deal games on my laptop.

The definitive top ten list of 2013

Posted on 12/23/2013 at 12:08 AM | Filed Under Blogs

This was definitely a "sort life out" year for me as well. I only just recently started a Steam account, and still don't own any now (last?) or new gen consoles.

Of your list, I'd want to play Injustice and GTAV the most.

Reviewing Consoles Early On Is Stupid

Posted on 12/22/2013 at 01:18 PM | Filed Under Blogs

Everyone who is knowledgeable enough about gaming to post on this website is more than likely in agreement with you, but we all know who these reviews are really for: casual holiday shoppers who don't know any better, people taking sides in the War of Consoles, and people like me who aren't  going to base their decision on any of these reviews meant to grab traffic, but will provide these websites with traffic out of curiosity, nonetheless.

Now, please rate my sentence-paragprah; which is my new term for my run-on sentences, because it sounds more like a legitimate literary device than a term used to critique bad grammar; on a scale of A through 8. I'll wait.

Chris Finds A Gold Mine Of Vinyl At Goodwill & Some Games From Toys R Us

Posted on 12/22/2013 at 10:35 AM | Filed Under Blogs

Holy Sinterklaas, Batman, now that's a good haul! I don't think there's a single artist in there I don't like. Believe it or not, my dad was going to ask for a turntable for Christmas initially. I am still getting him some books from probably Half Price Books, which sells vinyls as well. I'm going to be in there looking around and wondering what could have been. lol

You would think I'd know the Cowboys play today, considering my older brother works at Cowboys Stadium and I wear a hoodie of theirs he got me for Christmas one year all the time, but no. lol To be honest, they're the Dallas team I'm least attached to, despite my family ties. Our family ties are a bit stronger to the Green Bay Packers, though, considering my uncle was an honorary member on their board of directors before he passed, among other family connections. The Dallas Cowboys thing didn't always sit well with my grandpa on my mom's side when he was alive. He'd complain they were cheating, cause the old stadium had turf that rose in the middle of the field, which I think it actually did. lol

Once again though, it was a good idea to check out your blog for the heads up.

Hope your cousins like their gifts as well!

Anchor Brewing Company Big Leaf Maple Ale Beer Review

Posted on 12/22/2013 at 10:22 AM | Filed Under Blogs

That description of wine plus maple syrup does sound good to me, actually. Depends if we're talking white, red, dry, or sweet wine, though. I'm guessing dry red based on the review. I'm ok with that. I prefer wine to beer in most cases, honestly. You're getting me even more excited about going to Grimaldi's tonight. Hell, honey pumpernickle and pineapple cranberry sound fairly appealing to me too, at least the honey and pineapple part.

Aaand you dislike it, and it does not contain maple smell or flavor. Well, damn.

I have a request for you though, if you haven't gotten to it already. My parents bought some Rahr's & Sons Ugly Pug Black Lager recently, and while I think it just has a typical beer taste, I'm seeing a lot of four star reviews for either the beer or the Rahr's & Sons Brewing Company in Fort Worth, TX factory that it comes from. Beeradvocate.com has an overall rating of 82 for it, which is good by their standards, apparently. It seems to get pretty mixed reactions when looking at actual reviews, though.

It's a Schwarzbier style beer with 4% ABV according to beeradvocate.com. If you can find some, I'd love to see you do a review of it.

Diversity lounges: Good idea or segregation re-packaged?

P.S. Apologies for the blog-in-blog post. I understand if this is a TL;DR situation for you, so TL;DR version: I have some issues with the way you represented this topic, but want to make sure I understand you properly before making that judgment. I can see both sides of the issue(s) you bring up in this blog, but of course have my leanings, and look forward to discussing some of this further if you wish.

Retro Game of the Week: Mickey's Speedway USA

Posted on 12/21/2013 at 07:20 PM | Filed Under Blogs

I looked up the trailer for Beetle racing and it underwhelmed me, but F-Zero X is definitely an awesome game to have. Aside from the music, I also thought some of the track layouts were some of the most creative in any racer, and the sense of speed is just incredible. F-Zero GX nails that aspect as well.

I know Mickey's been in good games too. I loved playing them on SNES as a kid, but those were platformers (that I played, anyway) if I recall correctly. Kart racing games, however, I think were all pretty much just lesser Mario Kart rip-offs, aside from a few exceptions like, as you mentioned, Diddy Kong Racing. Apparently, Crash Bandicoot Racing was really good too, but I never got the chance to play it.

A Shield of Steam while Sonic Wonders a Lost World.

Posted on 12/21/2013 at 07:15 PM | Filed Under Blogs

The shield is a neat idea, but $249 is way too steep in my opinion. I don't really play high end games or feel the need to when it comes to my Android device (phone), so it's not for me, really. I'd just buy a 3DS instead.

I think I will buy Fez today, though. At least I'll have one Steam game I'm pretty sure will actually work.

Let me know how Sonic: Lost World is. I want to see Elysium and actually watch the rest of The World's End I slept through in the theater. Might see if Red Box has that one. Congrats on getting the Cornetto trilogy. Right now, Hot Fuzz is far and away my favorite of those movies, but we'll see how I feel after I really watch The World's End.

I've never seen Syriana, and don't really care to, but I remember liking Michael Clayton, and I liked Three Kings a lot more than I thought I would.

I actually like X3. I mean it jumped the shark in a couple places, yes, but I never considered the first two high art and I find X3 pretty entertaining, so whatever.

So a trilogy of trilogies on Blu-Ray (and Elysium) for you, huh? I see what you did there.

Look forward to that year-end blog. I think mine will come soon as well.

Blog Trouble!

I think they know the issue exists and are working on it, or at least, Nick told me as much. But wouldn't hurt to message either of them.
