Retro Game of the Week: Mickey's Speedway USA

Posted on 12/21/2013 at 11:10 AM | Filed Under Blogs

I keep forgetting that Beetle racing game existed, then remembering being really excited about it when I saw it in a magazine ad for some reason. I think I played it, but I don't remember. I rented a lot of games during that time, so it's all kind of a blur.

I never got into Mario Kart 64 as much as everyone else. I did like Diddy Kong Racing, though. F-Zero X is one of my favorite games ever, for the music alone. I need to see if I can't find a copy of that somewhere. I have F-Zero GX, which is great, but the soundtrack just doesn't compare.

As for Mickey's go-kart racer, I'm not too surprised it's a bit messy. It's a licensed game I never heard of, after all.

Merry Christmas!

Congratulations on all the great gets and gifts! 50 songs per CD ain't too shabby, and I would love a PS4!

Can't say I know much about Vita or the games you mentioned, though.

Glad to hear you are doing well. I need to restart my own fitness goals. I've been one lazy panda as of late. It's partly because I lost a lot of weight from getting sick, and I just didn't feel like physical exercise was the best thing during that period. Unfortunately, that period of sickness also started around Thanksgiving, so the temptation to lay around and eat various crap is there in spades! Damn holidays. I'm hoping since I lost weight before, I can now focus on gaining some muscle.

Let me know if you want any weight loss tips. Noom Coach (on Android, you can also get a myfitnesspal account online at myfitnesspal.com or on Apple for free) and a Youtube fitness trainer named Zuzana really helped me out. I think her channel name is ZuzkaLight. I'm planning on looking at some DavidsFitness videos as well.

I'm much worse than you are about posting on here when I'm busy. I've been posting a lot to make up for it, since I have more free time. I may have to make a schedule as well once I go back to school so I don't just disappear again.

Blog Trouble!

Posted on 12/21/2013 at 01:58 AM | Filed Under Blogs

Might have been the photos that were problematic in mine as well, because I had the exact same issues. I copy/pasted from Google Images, though, not my phone. Also, in order to resize my photos, I had to go to adjust the image settings by typing new dimensions into the dialogue boxes, where I remember being able to just clicking on, highlighting, and dragging an image to make it a different size before.

Nintendo Still Wows Me with 3D Classics!

Posted on 12/21/2013 at 01:54 AM | Filed Under Blogs

That's awesome! I'd love to play classic games in 3D. $6 is a much more reasonable price for a game with a gimmicky effect than what Nintendo was asking for when it re-released NES games like Zelda II on GBA. I think it was like $15 at the time, if I remember correctly. Ridiculous.

I'd actually say a lot of movies are trending towards more depth 3D like 3DS than the pop-out 3D as of late, but maybe that's just movies I've seen. To be honest, I prefer gimmicky movies where stuff constantly flies at your face. I don't really see the point of "fall-in" 3D in movies, but then I love what I've seen of 3DS kiosks that have the same depth effect to them. I guess it's because movies are visual, so I like the thrill of things coming at me, but with games it's just cool that I can see a 3D effect at all while I'm playing.

I'm 23 Today

Posted on 12/21/2013 at 01:45 AM | Filed Under Blogs

Happy birthday! I turned 23 this year as well. In fact, being born on March 23, this was my "Golden birthday." Which is odd, because mostly my year was shit. But I guess now that I'm on break and the mayhem is behind me, I feel better than I have in a long time and feel much more confident, so maybe it turned out ok after all.

I feel your pain on the baby face. People talk to you like you know nothing. I graduated Magna Cum Laude from a university and am in Graduate school. People have no right to speak to me like a child! It's frustrating.

Good choice on the music and I want some of that Dante cake. At first, I thought it was a Vash the Stampede from Trigun-themed cake.

To being an old man trapped in a young man's body! Cheers!

Deeper how? Like is it too repetitive, do you feel like there should be a larger moveset for characters, etc.?

Not yet I don't think, but they are planning on adding new languages.

Indie Game: The Movie

Posted on 12/21/2013 at 01:35 AM | Filed Under Blogs

I didn't get that impression from the Super Meat Boy creators. McMillen was weird and his older game ideas were kind of gross, but he seemed like a really cool, normal dude. Refenes was a bit more abrasive, but honestly, I don't disagree with his assessment of many modern games being shit. They definitely never presented their game as high art, either, from what I gathered.

As for the other two games and developers, I thought Phil Fish had pretty much the reaction most people would if they were in a situation as stressful as his. I can definitely see how Fez could be seen as an art game, which doesn't bother me, but I don't think he was being overly pretentious about his game from that angle if that's what you were worried about.

Jonathon Blow on the other hand, yeah, he literally told people who gave his game positive reviews that they didn't "get it" so I imagine you wouldn't like him.

I think it's worth starting up on Netflix and giving it a chance, though. If nothing else you can stop it or skip scenes if you don't like it.

My Top 10 Genesis Games

I agree, Sonic 2 is the best Sonic. I played Aladdin and Toy Story on SNES and dug those as well.

Lion King, however, I can't remember if I played on Genesis at a friend's or on my older brother's SNES, but I remember not even being able to get past the first level, cause it was so damn hard.

Xbox One's 24 Hour Check-In DRM caught on video during Killer Instinct Tourney

Yeah, I kind of suspected this video might have been making a mountain of a mole hill that had beans inside of it. I mean, they resolved the issue quickly enough as it is, and I hadn't heard a whole lot about there being a big problem with XBOX ONEs doing this. Glad to hear the link is fixed, though. It's good that you stay on your toes when it comes to stuff like this even if it might just be speculative, cause who knows how these companies will try to screw people or go back on promises.
