Short musings on story, myth, and Tales of Xillia

Posted on 02/24/2014 at 12:34 PM | Filed Under Blogs

While I'm playing Borderlands 2 with my friend Mark, I am the story guy, and he's the action guy. I do love to pay attention to what characters say in a game and what the story's about. I'm always telling him to shut up so I can hear what the character is saying and he's always plowing ahead for the next big boom. This dynamic changes depending on the game though.

If this was on 360, I'd love to do an achievement run with this game. It looks kinda fun. Too bad Argonaut got sold a year after this game came out.

The Week's Weak Recap

I was so getting bored on normal difficulty. Maybe it was that my co-op buddy was a few levels above me and just mowing down everything in site with impunity, but I did begin to think I was in an adventure game and not a shooter. Vault Hunter difficulty however, is total mayhem and makes you sit up and pay attention. It was much more engaging and made me think about how to mix and match all these weapons and items to get the best result against certain foes. Plus item drops were better and leveling was faster.

I was afraid it would only release to art house theaters in my area, but it will be out in the big theaters here next week. Phew!

BaD Ep 24: Captain N's Favorite 3D Sonic games

The only Sonic game I want to play right now, is not really a Sonic game. It's the RPG Sonic Chronicles on DS.

"casualization" is definitely ruining my tolerance for slow or difficult gameplay. I tend to drop a game if it gives me too much trouble, rather than stick with it like I might have in the past.

That's not even my favorite Accept tune. I have like at least three others I like better, but that's the one that got the metal ball rolling for me and it had a lot to do with that night and how well it fit the mood of the song.

That Wagner piece is probably just what everyone thinks is the theme to Excalibur.

Frothy Bird: My Flappy Jam Entry

I think I got up to a score of 30 but it's hard to say when pushing the space bar also resets the game immediately after you miss one. It took me a few minutes to figure out just what to do. I thought changing the bird's color was just an aesthetic thing and not a gameplay mechanic. I tried to flap it's wings with arrow keys, AWSD and the mouse. Then I got it.

What's Frothy about it, I wonder?

The Week's Weak Recap

I thought it was out this weekend but it's actually next. I went all the way to the theater before I realized it. It was listed on Fandango with a release date of the 21st, but I didn't look closely when I looked up movie times, which all gave dates for next weekend. I was disappointed but at least it will be out alongside the new Professor Layton game that Friday.

Six Songs of Your Life

I had to go to seven. I just couldn't remove any of these as they are all important to me.

The Who - The Seeker: Maybe the first rock song I ever heard. My parents had a 45rpm disc and this song was on the B-side. It brings back vivid memories of the place I heard it before I really listened to music. I think I must've been under 10 years old at the time.

Genesis - Blood on the Rooftops: I loved this song when I was in High School in the 80's because of it's classical guitar opening . Steve Hackett was my first guitar hero.

Yes - Roundabout:  I was so into 70's prog rock in High School while everyone else was into 80's New Wave. Yes's Fragile album was one of my favorites and this song never got old for me.

Rush - Red Barchetta: This song probably symbolized my excitment over learning to drive. Plus I was way into Rush in High School.

Richard Wagner - Gotterdammerung - Siegfried's Funeral March: I saw the movie Excalibur in the 80's and was entranced by the music. This is the piece used for the opening of the movie which featured lots of Wagner music. I started listening to lots of Classical music after this.

King Crimson - Islands: In the late 80's while I was in College, I was a pretty lonely person and this song sums up how I felt then. I've been a total Crimhead ever since.

Accept - Balls to the Wall: My band mate in the 90's loaned me a tape of Accept's album by the same name and I listened to it while driving through a huricane. After that, metal would be one of my music interests.
