SNES Games I Love #27: Tetris Attack

Posted on 02/28/2020 at 03:47 PM | Filed Under Blogs

I rented this one and really liked it.  But I didn't buy it because I was a poor college student at the time.  But later on I did get to review Pokemon Puzzle League for The Dallas Morning News!

Too bad Super Mario Kart isn't on your SNES list, as that is one of my top five favorite games.  I know it's hard to go back to now, but I enjoyed it so much in high school and college, and then when I played it again on the SNES Mini, I still liked it!  When I first saw it, I knew it would be a hit.  It singlehandedly created a sub-genre of games.  I even liked the small, flat tracks, as they felt more like real go-kart tracks.  I've enjoyed the other Mario Kart games, too, but the first one is special to me.  OK I had to gush about the game since you aren't going to. :)

BaD Games I Gotta Finish - Half Life 2

I really wanted The Orange Box when it first came out so I could play Portal, but I didn't want to pay full price for just one small game and I wasn't interested in the others.  But later when I saw The Orange Box for 20 bucks, I picked it up then.  If I would've played Portal back in the year it came out, I would've given it my GOTY that year instead of Super Mario Galaxy.

I'd rather play games, not make them.

Namco's Xevious

I've always been fascinated by Xevious for some reason.  Not sure why.  I know i've told you the story on how I used a bunch of dot matrix printer paper to make a Xevious map so I could play 'pretend' Xevious as a kid.  In Japan, Xevious even has a large backstory with novels and everything!

Too bad you don't have Xevious 3D/G+.  It had all the Xevious games up to that point, including Xevious Arrangement, which hasn't had another home port since.  The only Xevious game I haven't played is Solavou.  It's a 3-D arcade game that uses the same engine as StarBlade.

SNES Games I Love #26: Chrono Trigger

Posted on 02/28/2020 at 03:31 PM | Filed Under Blogs

While I like Final Fantasy 6 just a teeny tiny bit more in the gameplay department, Chrono Trigger is still the pinnacle of SNES RPGs.  It has one of the best stories in a video game ever, graphics that really reflect the art style of the character desinger, and revolutionary for the time features like New Game+.

My brother Jeff loved to watch me play this game.  He called it Chwono Twigger.  On our second playthrough, he made me name the characters after people he knew.  So Chrono become Jeff, I think he named Frog after me, etc.  When it came time to name the time machine, he only knew my friend's big gray truck, so we called the time machine "Truck" instead of Epoch.  That made for some really funny lines.

SNES Games I Love #25: Kirby's Dream Course

Yeah I don't like hard games either.  Except when I do.  Like Mega Man, for instance.

Activision's Stampede

Activision Anthology is one of the best game collections out there.  It even rivals the Namco Museums!

BaD Games I Gotta Finish - Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, & Skyward Sword

Posted on 02/26/2020 at 07:55 AM | Filed Under Blogs

I've beaten all those games.  Wind Waker is my favorite of the three.  I like Skyward Sword even though a lot of people didn't.  I didnt like Twilight Princess as much when i first played it on the Wii, but I liked it MUCH better on the Wii U HD remake.

That translation book sounds hilarious.

SNES Games I Love #25: Kirby's Dream Course

Posted on 02/25/2020 at 08:59 AM | Filed Under Blogs

So Kirby's Dream Course is actually the Kirby game that turned me into a fan.  I've always been a big supporter of HAL, but when the first Kirby game came out, I didn't get it because I didn't want to spend full price on a game I could beat in an hour.  But when I got the SNES, it came with a poster of upcoming games, and one of them was Special Tee Shot.  It looked like a cross between mini golf and Marble Madness, two things I like, so I kept my eye on it.  Eventually the game turned into Kirby's Dream Course, so I rented it once and was hooked.  I bought it soon after and played every Kirby game before and after that ever since.  Oh, and I beat Kirby's Dream Course, too, so I don't think it's THAT hard.
